Do you mind if we borrow Obama for a few years ?

Some joker in France have put 500 posters to ask Obama as president of France.

Normally I would laugh, but seeing the grim list of candidate we'll have... I can't help to think he would be IMO the best of the crop.

This would provide Trump with one more reason to belittle France and Paris in his tweets...

This is a fun idea though and could fit with a country where the entertainer Coluche went so far as getting 16 pc. support in opinion polls when he announced in 1980 his intention to be candidate for the French presidency (he withdrew under the pressure of professional politicians).

Anyway since he is not French he is not eligible for the function.

Coluche was not only an entertainer he was active in various political fashion and in social activities. He founded the "resto du coeur" which help give food to poors. All that gave him political clout and thus the 16pc. And while it is true to say he retired due to political pressure, but mostly because of his regisseur murder (it was not politically motivated but he could not know at the time, it was solved later).

So he was not "an entertaineur" only.

No American politician, even an Illinoid veteran like Barry O'Bama, could survive long in France. Slick Willy couldn't handle it either. Yurpeen politics is mostly a rocking boat compared to the placid cronyism over here. Rocking? I think I meant capsizing.

But it's a cute idea, and the Parisians would love Old Bama for, say, a summer and fall. Most fads last about that long.

I agree. I however stress that the "restos du cœur" did not start before 1983, i.e. 3 years after his bid for French presidency.

The Frenchs want to have a president who behaves as did Louis XIV or Louis XV.

Obama has therefore no chance to remain popular should he become president of France... :D

On the other hand as someone said "if I can make it there, I can make anywhere". Yes he can! ;)

I don't know if Barack Obama speaks French, however, Justin Trudeau might be available in a few years...
