• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Demonstrated . . . well not exactly.

Some rather hypish headlines on this:

Telepathy achieved – two human brains linked in complex experiment

University of Washington researchers have created the first telepathic link between two humans. Their technique didn’t rely on supernatural powers, but rather on nerve impulses, electrodes, and advanced science.

Now. Just take away the Internet! :(

“Evolution has spent a colossal amount of time to find ways for us and other animals to take information out of our brains and communicate it to other animals in the forms of behavior, speech and so on,” Stocco said. “But it requires a translation. We can only communicate part of whatever our brain processes.*What we are doing is kind of reversing the process a step at a time by opening up this box and taking signals from the brain and with minimal translation, putting them back in another person’s brain,” he said.

Doesn't the effect experienced by the receiver still have to be translated? I suppose over time and experience that would become a less conscious process but no more than other forms of communication.

It looks like a key for a giant wind up toy.

I suppose any sufficiently advanced technology would be indistinguishable from magic.

Imagine someday we have brain implants which allow us to wirelessly communicate with anyone simply by thinking. Not supernatural, but the functional equivalent of telepathy.

This is within the realm of possibility, isn't it?

Oh yeah for sure if you had a high fidelity input and a lot of training eventually you could text people from your thoughts

But why go to all this trouble of hooking up electrodes and circuits and whatnot when we could all just go consult our friendly neighborhood psychic?

:duck:

I can be drunk with food in my mouth and my Android phone still figures out what I'm trying to ask it to do somehow. Eventually I think they'll be able to measure and translate brain transmissions with little effort and training on behalf of the user.
