Oh, you knew it would bring the nutters out.

NASA's mission that sent a space probe smashing into a comet raised more than cosmic dust - it also brought a lawsuit from a Russian astrologer.

Marina Bai has sued the U.S. space agency, claiming the Deep Impact probe that punched a crater into the comet Tempel 1 late Sunday "ruins the natural balance of forces in the universe,"

Whoo boy.

Bai is seeking damages totaling $300 million - the approximate equivalent of the mission's cost - for her "moral sufferings," Izvestia said, citing her lawyer Alexander Molokhov. She earlier told the paper that the experiment would "deform her horoscope."

Considering that she probably had no idea that Temple I even existed a year ago, the ruining of "the natural balance of forces in the universe" is a remarkable jump to make
But then, "a foolish consistency is the mark of an unstable mind"--or something like that...

Bet she can't produce a horoscope cast before the launch of this mission that even mentioned Temple I. And, given the huge effects she predicts for this tiny pertubation of Temple I, I wonder how much her horoscope was "deformed" when Jupiter broke up and swallowed SHoemaker-Levy?

And how do astrologers account for all those comets not visible with the naked eye?

A: The tiny perturbations of invisible comets turn highly accurate predictions of the future into useless, catchall guesses that mean nothing at all.

It stands to reason that what are trivial celestial events that pass entirely unnoticed by us humans have extreme effects on horoscope prediction ability.

How else do you explain horoscopes' totally random and innacurate nature?

I'm with the russian on this one.
