Conspiracy theorist David Icke banned from entering Australia ahead of speaking tour

Controversial British conspiracy theorist David Icke has been banned from entering Australia, with the Home Affairs Department cancelling his visa.

Mr Icke believes the world has been taken over by alien lizards, including some who have infiltrated the British Royal family.

He is a Holocaust denier who argues the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York City were a conspiracy theory.

...

Sources told the ABC his visa had been cancelled on character grounds.

Posit: People like this should be denied platforms.

Discuss.

Sure, deny them any platform that would lend them legitimacy.
Better yet, have a hall set aside for soapbox speakers, and let them pay for everything related to the event.

Bloke sounds like a jerk, but just quickly googling he denies being a holocaust denier.

Which frankly is the only nasty one in the OP quote

In fact

And he does not deny the Holocaust. Icke says: “The way the Jewish people in Nazi Germany were treated by the Nazis is grotesque, horrific and almost beyond comprehension.”

Still should not be denied a platform. Let him speak and remove all doubts..
But that's the problem. When he speaks, people listen. They pay attention. They believe. He has 169,000 followers on Twitter. If all doubts were removed when he speaks, he wouldn't have followers. He'd be a nobody.

Heaps of people believe 9/11 was a conspiracy and who cares if he goes on about lizards?

He's making money off this stuff. That's all that matters to him. He would argue Flat Earth or Hollow Earth if people paid him enough. I think there's a word for someone who prostitutes themselves out to do anything for money...

Not sure about that. I suspect he is genuinely deluded, and has some mental health issues. He declared himself the son of god at one time. He probably is taken less seriously in the UK where people still remember he used to be a goalkeeper and sports broadcaster.

No, in this case I think he's actually a True Believer. He's stayed very consistent over a great many years. Someone that cynical would have dropped out of sight or switched to another scam by now.

Speaking as a citizen of the country that brought forth David Icke, the consensus here is that he is the embodiment of “bat **** crazy”. This is largely a result of giving him a platform on The Wogan Show - a popular prime time talk show on the BBC. He certainly removed all doubt then.

As for the number of Twitter followers, that’s not really proof of anything other than that he has a public profile.

We have one like that.

A kiwi preacher who went to the US, who with the kid out of Full House (I think) argue bananas prove god exists

No. I don’t think he should be denied a platform. I understand that different countries have the right to let in who they want, and that they can deny visas on pretty much any grounds they like. But I don’t agree with “no platforming” if by that you mean that governments ought to protect the ears of the hoi polloi from nasty ideas such as Holocaust denial, Islamic fundamentalists, white nationalists, black nationalists and / or flat-earth-lizard-men-alarmists. Who do you know who should have the power to say what you can and can’t listen to? Would you think it is just for, say, me to sit at a desk perusing material that I think may or may not corrupt artwollipot and stamp it “approved” or “forbidden” according to how much more combustible or corrupting I thought the material was for you?

He has actually argued the Hollow Earth in one of his books, the Exposing PseudoAstronomy podcast took the claims apart in episode 147, it seems that the Earth does not work like a washing machine.

Not according to this source, admittedly a few years ago.

Icke’s up to his usual tricks of spreading nasty holocaust denial propaganda—He’s advocating reading James Bacque’s book: Other Losses, which claims that US General Dwight Eisenhower, deliberately caused the deaths of a million German prisoners in internment camps from 1944 to 1949. This book has been reviewed by many internationally respected professional historians, and is universally regarded as a work of fiction. Oh, how surprising—Icke’s quoting fictional books as being factual again…

Does anyone even have to deny there are lizard people?

Just a code for Jews, isn’t it? Been a long time since I ever cared to read or listen to anything he said.

I might have gone out of curiosity a decade ago but he seems irrelevant among contemporary fringe thinking. Washed up hack looking to wring then last drops of a tired shtick.

OK

Time I fessed up.

I am actually an alien lizard person sent from across space to infiltrate anonymous internet forum and cause dissent, in the hope one of you will be in a position to start a global war, so we can take over your planet.

Sure it might sound nasty to you humans, but it is just our way, and we have developed a soft spot for you, which is why we have been delaying your inevitable annihilation.
