I have a Sony ICD-P320 digital recorder, and I've deleted some files that I'd like to recover. According to the manual "once a recording has been erased, you cannot retrieve it.", but I don't believe it.

It does have a USB port, but it needs special software (Sony's Digital Voice Recorder) to transfer files from the recorder to the PC and vice versa, i.e., it's not just a simple flash drive.

So, does anyone know where I can find 3rd party software (or drivers) that can access the memory directly, to see if I can recover the files?

Ok, I can help you get deleted files from your hard drive very easily with this handy and truly free program:PCinspector
But it sounds like you deleted something from a DV tape... If it's a tape then that's going to be a different story, no idea on that one...

it appears your recorder uses flash memory to store messages on. When you use the USB drive does it only work with Sony software or does it show up as a removable drive that you can copy files from?

If it shows up as a removable drive it is probably formated with FAT16 or FAT32 and might be recoverable using a Flash File recovery program. I've not used this but it was the top google hit:

If the recorder only works with Sony software it may be using some custom format that standard recovery tools can't understand.

yes, it's flash, not tape. no it doesn't show up like a regular flash drive. I tried 2 or 3 different recoxery programs. none of them worked.
