Warning: This is a serious spoiler about Stephen King's Dark Tower (hidden below). Highlight for question.

OK, at the end Susannah finds Eddie and Jake. They are brothers. I'm sure I'm supposed to recognize their new last name, but I don't. People with bad memories for names probably shouldn't read books with lots of characters. This is a chronic problem for me.

So what does their new name mean?

End of spoiler.

I just finished this book last week. I have found that www.thedarktower.net/forums/ is a good place to discuss it. But, they are largely uncritical of King as a writer, if not apologetic. I was interested in discussing how his weaknesses as a writer affected the series, but nope.

However, I happen to know the answer to this one. It's just another version of the word "tower", although I can't remember which language.

Not exactly the question I was asking, but you gave me the clue I needed. (Highlight for remainder of my response).

The name was Torren, and we heard it before as the original name of Calvin Torren aka Tower. So in their new incarnations they are somehow connected to Calvin Tower's family. Is their more significance to that family line?

I said I have a bad memory for names. I've probably forgotten several very important things that were told to us about this family.

as an aside...has anybody else, like myself, come to accept the ending as not being as bad as you thought it was right after you finished reading it?

I guess it was really about the journey and not the destination

SPOILERS

I didn't mind the ending, I was expecting something like that after they saved the beams and the tower and Roland pushed on.

I didn't like the way King used the drawing kid, kinda a deus ex way of taking care of the Crimson king, After Insomnina (IMHO the best "Tower" related book) I would have liked to have seen him put to more of a creative use.

I Just saw "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" and was thinking of the parallels with the ending of Dark Tower, in the ending scene showing them walk into the distance in the snow over, and over again.

And RPPA, I don't think the name is a big deal, just a little bit of synchronicity.

BTW I thought Salem's Lot is the best Tower related book, in fact I'm currently rereading it for the fifth time. Of course, as far as we know it originally had nothing to do with the Tower. I haven't read Insomnia, but now that I know it's part of the bigger story I'll pick it up.

I heard a while ago that Desperation was on the way to becoming a miniseries, anyone else hear about that.
