Does anyone know how to copy links in pdf files?

My problem is similar to this person's: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3959112. I've got a pdf file that contain links where the text says "example" and for reasons that I can't go into here I have to open that example in a specific browser. I'm using Adobe Reader X to view pdf files. My computer is set up to automatically open links in IE (I don't want to change this). What I want to do is to copy the link and then paste it into the required browser.

The Adobe party line appears to be "buy Acrobat" which I don't want to do. Does anyone know of a good workaround for this?

Sounds like you're putting yourself through a whole lot of trouble...

Try using a different PDF reader that lets you select and copy text?

That's an idea. Unfortunately, I don't recognize any names in that article (other than Adobe, of course), and I'm leery of downloading unknown software.

I ended up changing my browser settings while I worked on this particular task then changed them back when I was done, but it irks me that I can't simply right-click, select the copy link option, then paste the link into the browser of my choice just like I can with every other program. Why does Adobe have to be so difficult?

Try Foxit Reader. Feature rich and stable. Not crippled to try and get you to buy a nonfree version.

I second the recommendation of PDF-Xchange Viewer. It is a full Acrobat clone (not an Acrobat Reader clone) that has a "Copy Link Location" option when you right click a link in a PDF.

I've been using the paid Pro version for a few years and like it better than the full Acrobat that my employer provides. The free version has all the features most users will need for editing, annotating and bookmarking PDFs.

I've just switched from Foxit to PDF-XChange. It's really fast and works in Firefox. Foxit keeps hanging in FF for me.

That looks good at first glance. I've bookmarked it and will look further into it if my other option doesn't work.

Speaking of that other option, I've been using Nitro's Primo PDF (a simple print any file to pdf app) for years. It only just now occurred to me to look and see if they have anything that would be of use. :mgduh Shore nuff, they've got a free pdf reader/creator: http://www.nitroreader.com/. I'll install that when I get a spare moment.

Thanks for your help, folks. Guess I just needed someone to nudge my brain in the right direction.
