Cool, Go Mammoth Lakes!

They've had earthquakes and warnings for as long as I've gone there - about ten years. Yaaaawwwwwwwnnnnn.

They're Outside the caldera..sorry.Though an eruption in Adobe Valley would be cool, too. When they're under the resurgent dome or mammoth mountain itself then I'lll get excited.

Ps....as a Californian I was dissappointed when Mt. St. Helens took the titile of most recently active volcano in the lower 48 from Mt. Lassen. We'll see mammoth is 'volcano' enough to win in back for California. It's sort of like a sporting event for people who are really patient.

Well, yes. I was expecting someone in particular to come in here to tell us about the end of the world as we know it, but it appears not to have happened.

Well, the world as I knew it ended years ago.

I guess you weren't paying attention.:(

Well, I did notice she was married to Rod Stewart for 24 hours, was that what you mean?

Allright, you wanted Woo woo.I guess I'll go out on a limb & give you woo woo:
I predict there will be an earthquake with a magnitude of 5 or greater within a 20 mile radius of Mammoth Lakes within the next 7 days.It will either be within the caldera or in the Sierra Nevadas to the south of the caldera.(notice this excludes the Adobe valley area which is currently having an earthquake swarm). That's my Woo woo prediction.
Now for some speculation.Within the predition area above,I believe the most place for this to occur is 10-12 kilometers Southeast of Mammoth Lakes.

They have been talking about this impending disaster in Mammoth for at least twenty years that I know of.

Let's see...Mt. St. Helens is rumbling again. Before the 1980 eruptions Mt. St. Helens was last active in 1857.It was also in 1857 that The last 'Great' earthquake occured on the Southern San Andreas Fault. That earthquake was preceded by 9 nine hours by a (est.) M6 earthquake at Parkfield.....& a M6 earthquake happened at Parkfield this morning! That's scary! We'll see.

Oh goody.

Let's see- USGS website? Check!
Popcorn? Check!
Comfy chair? Check!

Ok, guys, let 'er go!

Soapy, are you enterainted yet?Let's see..Bam..a M5 aftershock to yesterdays Parkfield......But wait..Bam another M5.....this one looks to be on the Whitewolf fault in the Southern San Joaquine Valley.Cool, lets keep 'em coming. If his keeps up it may be an exciting week.

Sorry, but a small cluster of very small earthquakes near the Long Valley caldera doesn't amount to a hill of beans. Not so much to get excited about.

It wasn't a small small cluster of 'small' earthquakes when the thread was started. It was a swarm that included two with magnitudes of above 5...& quite a few 4's.
