Contraception equals euthanasia of sperms???

There was a recent uproar by Singapore students about religious groups insinuating their agenda into secular sex-ed programmes. These groups then preach the immorality of contraception, abortion, pre-marital sex, IVF and embryonic stem cells research.

Today, a doctor wrote in to the press in support the programme. The following paragraph from his letter floored me:

Family Life Society has its opponents. While it champions responsible parenthood, the sanctity of marriage, the sexual act within marriage, and the precious value of all human life (regardless of how weak that life is), it also actively discourages euthanasia in all forms, such as contraception (where sperms are killed), abortion (where life is intentionally terminated), and embryonic stem cell research (where the hapless human life is destroyed).

I wonder if he holds daily funeral services for the dead sperms spilled by his teenaged sons after some great wet dreams, or the millions "murdered" by his wife's body in their bid to conceive kids.

Or menstruation. If contraception is euthanasia, menstruation is manslaughter.

Dead sperm is murder?

Holy crap. I'm a mass murderer, like, 5 billion times over.

Someone should have warned me. Where do I turn myself in?

Is this not essentially the Roman Catholic objection to contraception?

Before criticising the author I'd like to know if English is his first language- in Singapore it might or might not be- or if this is a quirk of translation.

Of course, by the time I read this thread, I knew someone would make a Monty Python reference. I'm surprised it was so slow.

Given that he had the opportunity to study medicine, I think I can safely say that English is his first language.

I've always assumed the RC's objection to contraceptives was because they believe that sex should only be for the purpose of making babies. During my college days, I knew a guy who held such a belief. A group of us told him we pity his future wife. I do wonder if he still clings to that position.

I don't think so. As far as I know (having married an ex-catholic, but this is not a guarantee of accuracy because despite years of catechism and a cuban childhood she suffered a woefully deficient and spotty religious education, but...) I believe the RC objection to contraception is that sex with contraception = masturbation, which is a sin for reasons other than the death of sperm.

Euthanasia???? Does this bozo still think that sperms are homunculi or something? That left to themselves they'll grow up to be little people?

I would be careful making these sorts of rash statements. Remember, Sylvia Browne has apparently made it and I can't think of any sort of union that she could be attributed to.

I would think that use of contraception by students in Singapore would lead to slightly fewer youth in Asia.

Um... but out of the multitude of sperm in one ejaculate, only ONE can enter the holy egg. This one sperm actually causes the egg to block the entry by other sperm!

So even in "God's" plan... many innocent sperm are killed!

Oh, the humanity!!! :p

Obviously what we need to be spiritually at peace and not have rafts of squalling brats is a contraceptive that simply disarms the wicked murderous sperm, and lets them all swim happily together in harmony. I wonder if that guy in Singapore would be happy if we designed a little aquarium, with .... oh, never mind.

The brilliant Irish singer and flautist Fintan Valelly has a hilarious satirical song about the 1983 arrest of the staff of the Dublin Well Women's clinic for selling condoms, which includes the verse:

"The cheek of youse women to take in your hands
The powers that the doctors alone should command
'Sex is disease' says the law in this land
And them quare things are drugs and that's why they are banned.

"Ireland's proud name through the mud has been dragged
By self-righteous tramps selling wee rubber bags
Designed for the kidnap and murder of sperms
Without as much mercy as dettol on germs."

etc. Once again, life imitates art.

If sperm are little people then...

"I've wiped nations off of my chest with a gray gym sock! Entire civilizations have flaked and crusted in the hair around my navel! I've tossed universes in my underpants while napping!"
-- Bill Hicks

To say nothing of the legions of women (and men) who've committed not only genocide, but cannibalism...
