The other day, I was going through some paperwork relating to my professional certification when I had a thought.

In order to maintain my certification, I have to complete a certain amount of continuing education, as, I'm sure, do most licensed professionals here. And that continuing education can take many forms.

One category for my organization (The Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, if anyone wants to know) is the following:

I Conferences, conventions, seminars, lectures, rounds, workshops, teleconferences, on a related topic.
Each hour of attendance for education content (e.g., not a business meeting) will equal 1 CEE. Teleconferences must be arranged by a professional association, agency or university. Maximum 15 CEEs in related topic per three-year period. Related topic areas may include : Psychology, Education, Neurology, Stress management, Supervision, Counselling, Linguistics, Computers, Business management. Maximum 15 CEEs per 3-year rotation.

This got me to thinking ... I work in health care. Surely, skepticism is "related" to health care. Being able to spot scam therapies, knowing how to deal with clients who believe in questionable therapies, applying skeptical principles to evaluating the efficacy of my own interventions...

Clearly, this is one more reason for me to get my butt out to TAM one of these years!

This can't be an original thought. Many have done it before, right?
