Read a story today of how the Governator (Schwarzy) had announced plans for Universal Healthcare in California. Any news on this in the US?
Why not, if I may ask? The money isn't there? The votes aren't there? It's a gimmick? A combination?Well, it's been pretty big news here in California. But I'm not holding my breath waiting for this to actually happen.

I read that "Universal Health Care" had already been enacted in three other states of the US.

This thread is not about Arnold. Sorry! If this thread is about Arnold, and not about health care itself, I would say his wife has him on a short leash. A reverse "smell-the-glove" situation.
How do you know? The money isn't there and it probably is a gimmick.
I had a feeling California was not doing too well economically. Still, has anyone crunched the numbers or at least presented a report purporting to have crunched the numbers? The money isn't there, although Arnie also claims he's got a plan to erase the state's 103 million dollar deficit. As for a gimmick, I don't know. Arnie is as liberal a Republican as you can possibly get. He really plays both sides of the political fence.
I wouldn't be surprised if it happens in California eventually, but right now, we are just too broke.

6.Tomorrow, I will outline my budget, which is balanced and which fully funds education. Now when I first became governor, we had an operating deficit of $16.5 billion, and our state was almost in bankruptcy.
I said that through discipline and through revenues that flow from our economic growth, we could reduce the deficit over time. Last year, we got it all the way down to $4 billion. Tomorrow, I will propose a budget that will dramatically reduce this deficit even further.
Fair enough. Still, didn't he accompany his statement by any number crunching at all? When Arnie first took office, he swore he was going to go over the books with a fine tooth comb and find all the waste. Nothing ever came of it, as I recall.
From his State of the State speech:
Fair enough. Still, didn't he accompany his statement by any number crunching at all?
I see.No, that was the extent of the number crunching.
I must be missing something.Now THAT's funny.
I must be missing something.
Rob, do you live in California?
I see.
Conan was re-elected, right?
You emmigrated???No longer. Greener pastures, yada.
What, pray tell, was his platform? If any?Yes, he got elected part way through Gray Davis' last governorship, when Davis was recalled. Then he got re-elected this last November (Sylvia Browne said he wouldn't be re-elected, BTW.)
What, pray tell, was his platform? If any?
Any mention of healthcare in there?
