Idiots. So Atheists can't hold a convention over Easter? Sheesh.

Colorado Gov. Snubs Atheists

Gov. Bill Owens (search) and Mayor Lionel Rivera declined to extend an official welcome to the Atheist Alliance (search) for its national convention this weekend, and attendees said they felt slighted.

Rivera said he thinks the group's request for a letter of welcome was the only one he had turned down in his 11 months in office. Terry Sullivan of the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau (search) said the governor rarely declines requests for welcome letters.

Rivera said he refused to offer a letter of welcome in part because the group scheduled its convention during Easter and just days after Passover.

"Anybody in the United States is welcome to express their beliefs and opinions," Rivera said. "I just think it's bad timing."

So much for the First Amendment - it was wrong for him to judge and snub the Atheists that way. What an unfriendly thing to do!

This is funny.

In this country, at this time in history?

Totally politically correct. In fact, he'll be a hero to millions of Americans.

Small price to pay for pissing off 100 atheists.

HAHAHHA! What's he expect for Atheists to worship in Easter services too?! That guy is just another bigot xtian.

However, I see that the governor of Illinois has officially apologized to the Mormons for driving them out of the state back in the 1800s....

Is this why you guys take shots at xians whenever you can?

Tired of being beaten, wearing you down?

Slap a Christian around today --- you'll feel better! ;)

I'm e-mailing both the governor and the mayor. There is no excuse for this kind of bigotry, which is all it is.

Atheists, who by definition don't believe in any god, much less the Christian god, plan a convention and they're expected to plan it around Easter? How does that make any sense? That's like a Jew getting upset because a Christian went to church during Rosh Hoshana.

Riddick, you're an idiot. What's more, you're a bigoted idiot. What these guys, who are supposed to represent all the public, did is just more Christian bigotry against those who don't conform. Their faith is so strong that they must discriminate against those who believe differently than themselves. The fact that you are pleased by this bigotry says more about you than the "Christian" positions you've taken on this forum.

Take it all the way to the Supreme Court I say!!!!!

Don't remind me, they choose what they want to hear.

E-mail President Bush!!!!

E-mail Whoopi Goldberg!!!!!

E-mail The Rock!!! He'll bring the smackdown to those Christians!!!

What the...

Now taking payments for the drive-by water balooning.

Of course, if he'd done a simmilar thing to another group, I'd also be accepting payments. I can't tell if that's because I'm anti-opression or because I'm a mercenary.

Imagine if we had a state with an atheist governor.

Christians: Could we have a letter of welcome for our Christmas Conference?

Governor: Hell no! That's bad timing. Christmas conflicts with a godless December 25.

Jews: Could we have a letter of welcome for our Hanukkah Hoo-Ha?

Governor: Oye vey! That's bad timing. Hanukkah conflicts with a godless portion of December.

Muslims: Could we have a letter of welcome for our Ramadan Respite?

Governor: Tai no! That's really bad timing. Ramadan conflicts with an entire month of not believing in god.

A very merry unwelcome to you...
come spend your money on hookers and booze,
rent our convention center and rooms,
a very merry unwelcome to you.

Hmmm...if I were a member of this organization, I don't think I would be terribly heartbroken that I didn't get an "official" welcome from the governor. It's meaningless gesture whose absence changes nothing and infringes on nothing.

Now, if said organization were treated differently in a manner that was of some consequence (such as different pricing, harassment, or bullying; that sort of thing), then I would be more apt to bark about it.

Nope that's not why.

I can't speak for any other atheists, but I take potshots at Christians whenever I can because so many of them are just like you.
