$cientology, eBay and the Gay Meter

Awesome product! A++++++++ Seller!!!!11!11

Really, though, that was amusing. And the comments on the auction page are excellent. But the whole "Scientology has its claws in eBay" angle, if true, is disturbing.

I really don't see how they have a leg to stand on by trying to prevent resale of a standalone product.

From RADAR
it appears the Church is operating outside of VeRO's intended scope, and is thus guilty of, among other things, price fixing, tortious interference with a contract, misrepresentation, perjury, unfair competition, discriminatory business practices, and religious discrimination.

They go about it by claiming it's a "Religious Artifact" and can only be used by ministers or ministers-in-training.

Definition of an e-meter:

"E-Meter: short for Electropsychometer, a specially designed instrument which helps the auditor and preclear locate areas of spiritual distress or travail. The E-Meter is a religious artifact and can only be used by Scientology ministers or ministers-in-training. It does not diagnose or cure anything. It measures the mental state or change of state of a person and thus is of benefit to the auditor in helping the preclear locate areas to be handled."

My bolding.

Well, if it actually measured "mental state", it would be a medical device. What it actually measures is the amount of BS one can absorb.

Updates:

Another joke auction has started. Wonder how long it will last for before getting censored by Co$?

Michael Pattinson has reported on Usenet that the "gay meter" auction has been deleted. (For those who missed it, Pattinson has posted the amusing comments from that auction before it was pulled.)

Added:
A copy of the original "gay meter" auction page is currently viewable on ScienTOMogy.
