Interesting blog on the CNN website today...
Tyler Blanski said:
"... By the time I had my first girlfriend at age 20, I was so guilty, so prudish, and so certain of what I thought was Christian sexuality that I lived in fantasyland. When I finally learned how to love and kiss and date a real, live woman, I realized that most Christian books about sex are as unreal and abstract as pornography..."
I thought that part in bold pretty much sums up the truth of the matter.

I wonder if the auther was also thinking of the Bible when he said, "... most Christian books..."

While I don't disagree with what I take to be the gist of the article ("it's okay to enjoy sex even if you're Christian"), his writing style is so smarmy and cloying that I could barely reach the end of the piece without gagging.

But, yeah, have fun and be playful in bed, Jesus would have wanted it that way! :D

"Love thy neighbour"
..or was it "Love thy neighbour's daughter"
...or maybe 'One bird in the hand is worth two and some bush'
Man I am can't remember now. Whatever I not Christian and sex is good.

As long as you're married and only having sex with the same person for all eternity.

If you read Song of Solomon, a book of the Bible, it's pretty sensual. That's really my only input there.

I think it would be best if Christians, Muslims and all other religious loons refrained from sex. It would avoid all those tricky "what does God think is alright?" issues.

I'll see your CNN blog and raise you this.

Angels having sex with humans.
Demons happy when unmarried people have sex.
Masturbation causes homosexuality.

There is also a bit about wearing loose clothing and not lingering in the shower or you will make the demons happy by masturbating. You are supposed to shine your shoes or take out the trash if you get the urge.

Not to mention taking them out of the gene pool.

That's pretty much what doomed the Shakers (a.k.a., "United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second Appearing").

Founded upon the teachings of Ann Lee, the group was known for their emphasis on social equality and rejection of sexual relations, which contributed to their decline in numbers. With few surviving members, Shakers today are mostly known for their cultural contributions (especially style of music and furniture).

They could only grow or maintain their numbers by recruitment, and who would want to join a group that promotes celibacy as its primary doctrine?

Yeah, I hear that complaint a lot.

I think there was once a (small) Christian sect, or cult, who preached total sexual abstinence and apparently practiced it to a sufficient degree to make themselves extinct.

No, I don't have a source......

I thought Christian marriages were "until death do us part", leaving everyone single in the afterlife? Are there any denominations that believe marriages aren't dissolved by death? That must make remarriage of widows and widowers complicated...

There is a bible story about that (NT, but I have no idea where): Apparently, there was a Hebrew tradition that if a married man died, his younger brother (provided he had an unmarried younger brother) married the widow. Now, it seems there was this widow who had married, and lost, 7 brothers, and somebody asked Jesus which of them she should marry in Heaven. Jesus replied that people don't marry in Heaven.

I could be wrong. This is just going on what someone else once told me but old Irish tradition has it that you marry once and if your spouse dies, too bad.

The Mormons.

They also believe that a person can be converted to Mormonism long after they've died.
