Christian Coalition: Gays Should Wear Warning Labels

(New York City) The leader of a conservative Christian lobby group says that gays should be required to wear warning labels.

This guy's an idiot. Can't he see that it would backfire? It would be adopted as a gay pride fashionable political badge, and it would start showing up on tshirts and bumper stickers and flags and every conceivable product, and gays would use the symbol as a visible representation of community and become closer and stronger than ever. I have always wished that there was an easy way to tell homosexuals apart from the rest of the population, or at least lesbians. Speaking as a heterosexual male, it could have saved me lot of trouble on at least three occasions.

It would be really convenient to have a mandatory system of forehead markings in place to denote sexual orientation, availability, smoker or non-smoker, basic personality traits, number of dependents, and a few other bits of information. I am sure that if the government ordered putting marks of the foreheads of all US citizens, the fundies would leap up in praise of the idea.

Except that this guy is the head of the New York Christian Coalition. I don't need to tell you how much of a force the CC is in the Republican Party.

Last week while I was in NYC, there was an assault on a gay man because he was gay (saw it flipping through the Post).

I'm really shocked that in New York City/State there is still so bigotry that it leads attacks and this "gays should be marked" crap.

Why are some Christians so fixated with the gay thing? Really, there are a bazillion sins in the Bible…homosexuality being merely one of many, many, many. It’s only mentioned like three times or something, whereas Christ goes on and on about greed and materialism. Hell, if a Christian really wanted to help American society, deal with that doozy.

When one reads the New Testament, Christ comes across like some socialist peacenik who cares more about the Kingdom of Heaven than anything on this Earth.

Strange how his philosophy has somehow become intermingled with that of the Republican party…

I wouldn't call this an isolated case of looney tunes, after all, the majority of americans voted against equality for homosexuals in the last election.

I am relatively certain TBK is talking about all they anti-gay marraige initiatives on the ballot across the country, every single one of which passed, IIRC. One could have voted for any candidate and still voted against those inititiatives.

2. Christianity is a male-centered religion, homosexuality is seen as undermining malehood.

Possibly the religious right would like to expand the warning label list:

1. Yellow Star of Davids for Jews - sound familar?

2. Black triangle was for 'social misfits'.

3. Green for common criminals.

Where gay marriage was an issue it was voted down. How does this translate into a "majority"?

Gee, I'm sorry, the I should've qualified my statement with "wherever there was a vote..".

Twice that I know of, both in Leviticus, and none at all in the New Testament. Leviticus 18:22 says "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." 20:13 says "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death."

Of course, this is right beside other interesting "thou shalt nots."

19:19, "...you shall not let your cattle breed with a different kind; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed; nor shall there come upon you a garment of cloth made of two kinds of stuff."

19:27-28 "You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard. You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh ... or tattoo any marks upon you."

20:10 "If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death."

Try reading all the way through Leviticus sometime; a sure cure for insomnia. I'm not sure why they fixate on these two sentences and ignore the other 27 chapters.
