Child Care, especially after hours

My fiancee and I are planning on attending TAM this year (her first, my... fifth? sixth?) and we are planning on bringing our 5 year old son with us. I understand there will be child-care during the talks, but what about later? Obviously, we don't want to be away all night partying (we'll do that another time), but is there anyone that is bringing a reasonably responsible teen who may want to earn a few bucks watching our very active 5 year old for a couple hours on either Friday or Saturday night? For that matter, is there any responsible adult who might want to trade some time (we'll take yours for a few hours if you reciprocate) so we can get out and enjoy a show somewhere?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, and no, we're not hiring one of the for-hire nannies. They're waaaaayyyy too expensive unless a few people want to split the fee.

Thanks in advance

We're bringing our 1 year old (whose arrival caused me to miss last year's TAM... the little jerk) and I was reading through the South Point page and saw something labelled "Kid’s Tyme Child Care Facility" that I hadn't seen mentioned in the text of the main hotel web page. It's upstairs by the bowling alley and they'll take 3yr+ kids on a dropin basis for what seems like a fair fee.

I just checked with the South Point. The lady I talked to said that that facility hasn't been active at SP for "years." Apparently, the website you saw has outdated info.

We'll just have to keep looking around I guess.

Btw, if you are interested in trading an evening out and are willing to provide some references (we will provide the same), we might be able to work out a trade.

I'm bringing my 6yo girl and figured I just would not be going out past 8pm. lol

Im up for a meetup by the pool or something. Always nice to have a group of parents so I dont have to take her and all our stuff every time I use the restroom or get food, etc...

Whoops. I never thought to check with the hotel, but mostly because ours wouldn't have been eligible for the (non-existent) service.

I think much of my time that would normally be Del Mar Lounge time will instead be Del Mar Deli time, because it's minor-friendly. I wonder how the Deli feels about hours long sessions of Cards Against Humanity...

Why in the FSM's great name would Cards be against Humanity?? Without Humanity there would be no cards!!!!!!!

As a happy coincidence I found I know people with kids going there at the same time for the BMX event that will watch my daughter for a night. yay! Since many are racing, they dont do a big party night until Sunday when they can afford the hangover.
Now, where does a single mommy go for a night? Maybe Penn's party?

I've never played Cards against Humanity. It doenst sound minor friendly. ;) (though she does like potty humor)

Minor get together

I'm all for either a get together of Cards Against Humanity or hanging by the pool. Gotta have some place for the kids to congregate.

We are still OK with trading an evening date with anyone if you want to do that--we take the kiddos on one night and let you go out for a few hours, with reciprocation, of course.

Hit us up if you are interested. Refs can be provided, of course.

I plan to have some card, board, and dice games available for people to borrow and play at TAM. If you're interested, I can bring a few kid-friendly ones, but only if you think there'd be interest -- shipping costs get high, quickly!

Good idea! I can bring some of ours (we are driving in). I think we have a few that will fit in my purse for impromtu playing like UNO and Spot It.

Has there been a place or time for this in previous TAM's?

I'll have a moody teenager in tow so I'll probably bring an xbox and a few games. Has anyone tried to connect one to a South Point TV? Any reason it would not work?

RE: Child care during the conference hours

The OP specifically states interest in after-hours child care, but with regards to during conference hours (in the event you didn't know about it), TAM provides free child care until 8am-6pm, July 10-13 (Thursday - Sunday).

From the TAM FAQ (http://www.amazingmeeting.com/tam2014/faq/):
Will there be child care at the conference?

Yes, child care is a free service for TAM attendees who register in advance for the service. The child care will be provided by bonded and insured child care providers from the Las Vegas area. The child care will be located in the conference area of the South Point Hotel & Casino, in a room near where conference sessions will take place. Toys, games, activities, and movies will be available for the children. Food will NOT be provided. Parents are responsible for meals (we will have some snacks available – parents must alert us to any allergy or food issues).

One parent/guardian must be registered for the conference. One parent or legal guardian must be on the hotel property at all times while the child is in child care.

Child care will be available July 10-13, 2014. Drop offs will begin at 8:00am each day. Children must be picked up by 6:00 PM each day.

For more information about child care, please email TAM@randi.org.
