[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][SIZE=-1]Cheney: “Recent occurrences in Georgia, beginning with the military invasion by Russia, have been flatly contrary to some of our most deeply held beliefs. Russian forces crossed an internationally recognized border into a sovereign state; fueled and fomented an internal conflict; conducted acts of war without regard for innocent life, killing civilians and causing the displacement of tens of thousands.”

He can't be serious, can he? :boggled:

He's dead serious but of course he knows how absurd that statement is. But hey, he's adressing a deeply frightened and brainwashed audience - and the fascist machinery needs fuel.

Brainwashed? Present evidence of this brainwashed audience that you speak of.

I'd like to point out that
  1. oversized font was not necessary
  2. VP Cheney's liturgy was not presented in chronological order -- or if it was, in his mind, he cherry picked his start day for the world not being wonderful to begin.

"In the beginning, things sucked, but only after the Russians got involved -- before that, it was the void, without form or shape, until Vlad said Let There Be A Fight.
The above seems to be his chronology.

Notice how Cheney structures the beginning of his remarks --

beginning with the military invasion by Russia, have been flatly contrary to some of our most deeply held beliefs.

Now he mixes and matches some event timelines.

Russian forces crossed an internationally recognized border into a sovereign state; fueled and fomented an internal conflict; conducted acts of war without regard for innocent life, killing civilians and causing the displacement of tens of thousands.

Note that the bolded part misses the point of this S Ossetia and Georgia fracas having been going on for some years, and the Russians tending to take the SO side.

That the Georgians, for their part, have no clean hands with which to come to court seems lost on VP Cheney, from this excerpt. I guess uncles can have blind spots for favored nephews. :p

How disappointing, if somewhat predictable, in terms of style.

Mhmm, according to the article, he made this comment during a visit in Italy.

I have no love for Cheney or the Bush Administration, but Putin's Russia seems to fit the classic description of Fascism a lot more then the US.
But then "Fascist" is used by the militant left with about as much concern for truth and accuracy as the term "Communist" was used my Joe McCarthy.

Frankly, Kiddo, your Neo Marxist rhetoric is getting to be a bore. You whole "Baader Meinhoff Wannabe" routine has lost whatever entertainment value it once had.

it is easy to spot other people's Fascism, but it is hard to spot your own fascism.
