Chelsea is expecting her first child.

Normally wonderful news. Except......it seems there is something fishy about this. And Newsmax is all over this.

Pardon the skeptic in me, but what great timing! I mean, purely accidental, purely an act of nature, purely just left up to God. And God answered Hillary Clinton's prayers and she going to have the prop of being a new grandma while she runs for president. It just warms the heart. It brings a tear to my eye. It really does. Wow!

So what do you think? Innocent good news or part of a slimy plot orchestrated by Hillary?

Fun Fact, Chelsea and I were both at Stanford at the same time. Of course I was just visiting as part of a cross country meet.

Could actually be problematic for Hillary, as just reinforces the reality that she's old. She'll be as old in 2016 as Ronald Reagan was in 1980, and Reagan was the oldest man ever elected to the Presidency.

Well Sure. It was a planned pregnancy, planned to help her mother become president. :D

She'll be the first politician in the history of the world to kiss a baby.

Will she stop at nothing to get her evil way???

Yeah, Newsmax is totally right on this one. I mean, no Republican presidential candidate would be so crass as to exploit their grandchildren on the campaign trail!

Y'all seem to be reading in a lot of judgement where none was intended. But since you want me to be judgemental so badly, here's some judgement for you:

I think it's absurd in the extreme to suggest that Chelsea's pregnancy is anything other than a coincidence, as far as Hillary's political aspirations are concerned.

And I think it's absurd in the extreme to suggest that Hillary--having political aspirations--will not at least consider how the coincidence may be used to her advantage.

Finally, I don't think there's anything particularly evil or crass about such considerations--or even about such actions. If Hillary can make it work, more power to her. As you each have so insightfully noted, she wouldn't be the first to take that route.

ETA: The sad thing about this forum is that nobody can express any kind of political opinion at all, without somebody else deciding it can only mean they're late to an Internet Slap Fight and need to make up for lost time.

My reaction is this: who cares? The ONLY reason her pregnancy gets any news mention is because of who her parents are. And I personally am sick and tired of that sort of "news" coverage.

I'm less interested in the harping on this from the fringes than I am in the fact that so many mainstream news organizations think it's newsworthy at all. We should not treat politicians like royalty. If the British want to fuss about Kate having a baby because it's their future king, they can have at it, but we Americans shouldn't care about Chelsea's spawn. It should be as obscure a birth as all the millions of others that happen each year. It's pathetic that our press feels differently.
