The DNA is a match. BTK is caught.
I have been following the search for him on catchbtk.com which is where I am getting these links from.

BTK is Dennis Rader, President of Christ Lutheran Church and a Park City Compliance Officer.

Apparently this is his daughters personal web site.

Good job to the authorities for catching him. I hope the bastard rots in jail for a long time

Here is a better pic of BTK

Good.

I'm from that area. Kids from Park City went to my grade/junior/high schools (Park City doesn't have it's own schools, they either go to Valley Center schools, or Northeast Wichita Schools)

I'm very glad they finally caught him.

I wonder if he's like Gary Ridgeway (The Green River Killer) who thought he was doing good works by murdering prostitutes?

I'd be willing to bet anyone right now that this guy thought he was doing the "Lord's" work ala the Spanish Inquisition. Maybe I'm dead wrong on this, but it sure wouldn't be surprising that fundy religion has brought us yet more tragedy.

It's been on 30 minutes now, and they are all just patting each other on the back. It is obvious they are not going to name any names today.

I doubt it but I also doubt we'll ever know for sure. Killers such as this seem to lead a very detailed lie in terms of the way they present themselves to others. I suspect the cloak of religion was just one part of the make-up. To assume otherwise is okay, I guess, but to be convinced is to fall into the same trap that makes religion what it is.

I am of course happy the man was caught, but I don't like the "A Christian! How lovely!" comments. What would you think about "A jew! How lovely!" or "A Muslim! How lovely!" comments?

I am certain "The Central Scrutenizer" was being sarcastic, mind you, (making fun of 1inChrist the troll) and certainly not trying to imply all Christians are like that.

I am just annoyed that Christianity seems to be the ONLY religion whose criticism is allowed without social sanction. Either all religions are allowed to be criticized (my view of course), or none are.

I agree. It was a shot at 1inchrist and loser fundies like him. But to me, all religions are equally stupid. So had he been a muslim, I would have reacted similarly.

I dunno....there's alot of people here who would be alot less openly critical of him were he a muslim. (not me of course)

Unlike CS I'm not of the opinion that all religions are equally silly. I have a deep respect for the philosophy/theology of the Taoists since it is far more logical and less silly than the popular monotheistic sort. Also you don't see many Taoist terrorists or serial killers.

This guy is an example of evil...and a tragedy for his victims, his family, the victims families,...etc...etc on down the line. I'm just glad he's busted so Ann Rule can start writing her next book.

So he lived on the same street as one of the victims and it took how long to find him? wft? I wonder if he left town for 20 years or if he lived there the whole time.
I remember reading somewhere how he spent an hour or so hiding in some womens house waiting for her to come home so he could kill her. He got tired of waiting and left and then she came home about ten minutes later.

I'm reading about BTK on CourtTV's website, and the Wichita police used Robert Ressler to profile him in 97. Here's what he said:

Ressler said the man was probably a graduate student or a professor in the criminal justice field at WSU in Kansas, was most likely in his mid-to-late-20s at the time of the killings and was an avid reader of books and newspaper stories concerning serial murders. Additionally, because his pattern of killings has not been seen in Wichita since the '70s, he has "left the area, died or is in a mental institution or prison," Ressler said.

Then John Douglas wrote:

Douglas states that the killer used police lingo in his letters - Douglas thinks he may actually be a cop, or may impersonate a cop - he probably reads detective magazines and may have even bought a police badge. He would attempt to insert himself in the investigation. He would be tempted to brag or leave hints about what he had done.

Douglas states that the killer was in all probability a loner, inadequate, in his 20s or 30s, might possibly have an arrest record for break-ins or voyeurism, but probably no actual rapes.

Douglas further states that the perpetrator may have stopped killing because he is in jail for something else, or a mental hospital, may have died, or maybe he injected himself so closely into the investigation, he got scared. It is even a possibility that the memories and photographs are enough for him to contain his obsession

Is there enough info about Rader to confirm or deny Ressler's and Douglas' profiles?

Ooh and a British psychic, Dennis McKenzie showed up.

The BTK case has even led to the production of a British documentary film concerning the murders and the ongoing investigation, Theresa Freed reported in a September 2004 KAKE-TV article. Freed reported that the "British film crew not only wants to tell the BTK story but (also) offer police new insight into the case."

The new insight came in the form of a British psychic named Dennis McKenzie who traveled with the crew to Wichita.

Freed said that McKenzie has successfully assisted in several high profile investigations, including the Soham murders. He was also able to contribute to the BTK investigation by producing an image of the killer with the help of a sketch artist, as well as other potentially valuable information concerning the murder cases, Freed stated.

A quick search on Google didn't turn up anything on Dennis McKenzie. Are there any Brits who might know more about this?

Thanks, e_i !!

The linked article said:

"I felt he's either a maintenance man or a plumber, that kind of profession," McKenzie said of BTK. "And I'm almost certain that he works for himself.

"He is an ordinary, ordinary person. He would be just an ordinary, nice guy. At least he's a nice guy 95 percent of the time."

Sounds like he was wrong on two definately, and pretty wrong on the third.

1. Maintenance man or plumber--no, Rader worked for the city.

2. Worked for himself--no, same as #1

3. A nice guy 95 percent of the time--well no, not exactly. From Kansas City Star

Most said the man now accused of being the BTK serial killer was a bureaucratic bully, an ordinance enforcement officer for this suburb 7 miles north of Wichita who, they said, often went out of his way to find reasons to give people citations.

It seems from the article about McKenzie, that he left some sketches with the police. It sure would be interesting to see the sketches. Hopefully the police did not trash them because if they did then McKenzie, will come up with an other set.

It sounds like DNA not woowoo was this guys downfall.

I sure hope that the Midwest prisons are as bad as I have heard.

I read he was on a watch list at one time, but was taken off for some reason. The Wichita police have kept a lot of info out of the public eye so we may never know.

The story of BTK waiting in the house is true. Remember, serial killers are often impulsive, so my guess is even waiting an hour was tough for him. BTK even sent her a poem asking why she didn't show.

I know this isn't a court of law, but no matter how damning the evidence looks (and it looks pretty damning), he is innocent until proven guilty. A lot of people seem to already have him in the chair, which is actually impossible in Kansas unless they tie him to a murder after 1994.

Frankly, if he is guilty, there's not enough imagined tortures in hell by which to punish him.
