Brian Ross, investigative reporter at ABC, has a post detailing the means
the CIA used to break the 9/11 mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, to get
him to spill his guts about the 9/11 and other plots. The method used was
waterboarding - strapping the prisoner to a board upside down and having
water poured down their throat to give impression of drowning. The CIA
supervisor watching the procedure was a woman! KSM supposedly held out
for 2 minutes before he cracked. In addition when captured the CIA messed his appearance purposedly made him look like one of low lifes regularly
featured on the police show COPS!

Torture is wrong, but I'd be more upset about this if he hadn't freely confessed to Yosri Fouda before he was captured and continued to confess once he was out of CIA custody.

Just to be pendantic, although I don't condone the method, in water boarding a cloth or similar covers the subject's mouth and water is poured across his mouth rather than into it.

The subject feels like they are drowning, but are physically unharmed. CIA agents - who are subjected to the technique as part of their training - typically last about seven seconds.
