Some months ago, I listened to an interview with one of the directors of the National Geographic Society about the TV channnel. He was fielding complaints about the increasingly "reality TV" nature of the shows presented and mentioned that most of the TV Channel was actually owned by the production company and not NatGeo.
He said they were in negotiations with the production company to produce more shows that were more representative of the goals of the society...

Perhaps this is bearing fruit; last night we got the first episodes of the new "Brain Games"

Which was actually pretty well done. Decent presentation of how our minds process motion and attention, how easily fooled we are, and why these things happen. Probably anyone who's taken basic psychology courses would be familiar with the material, but it seems to be a step in the right direction.

Thanks. I first saw the ads about a week ago but missed that it had started. Looks like three different eps coming up at 4 pacific today.

The ones you saw last night must have been reruns from last week. There's a new show on tonight. My listings also show an old episode from two years ago before the new shows air.

It's on right now

Yeah, it looks like the first was from last year. I was on the road so I didn't even know about the series until a week or so ago.

Seems ok overall, very interesting in spots.

The "follow the juggling pin... Oh you can't can you" made me laugh. It's actually hard for me to lose track of one if I want to follow it. Like the shell game, I avoid focusing on it and let my peripheral/unfocused vision track it. Feels easy, maybe it's learned.

And I hope the "Super Multitask" dude got the wake up call he needed. :D

Yeah, I didn't have any trouble following the juggling pin.

OT, but important enough to emphasise: it doesn't matter if you can follow the shell; the pea is likely not under the one it started under. Never put money on it. Even those who know how it is done cannot win at it.

No argument. The example only works for "in an honest game", so pay attention kids... don't gamble on street games in the big city!
