Recently read about a tool used by psychics called the "blue book". From what I understand this is a collection of facts about people who happen the frequent psychics. Specifically their more wealthy clients.

I was wondering if anyone knew about how these books are assembled, purchased, and kept a secret. I think that one of these blue books in the hands of a skeptic could be a very powerful tool. I could just imagine getting one of these books, going through the phone book, and showing some people that it doesn't take a special insight to get knowledge of them. It just takes a couple of bucks and the right connections.

Where did you read about it?

A 'blue book' is a term used to describe a compilation book. (Like car prices, doll prices, etc.)

It sounds to me (and I may be wrong) that what it's referencing is someone keeping a book of details of each client for their own use, almost like 'Foley Files' (described in Heinlein books). They're used to tract personal details of people you'd like to remember, but can't due to lack of memory/volume. An example would be if you met someone famous, the meeting would stick out greatly in your mind. You'd probably recall a great many details. The famous person meets hundreds of people like you. Sadly, it's not going to stick out greatly in their mind. However, if they keep a 'blue book' or 'Foley File' or whatever we want to call it, they can write down the minute details that you would normally recall, and use it to 'refresh' their memory if they meet you again.

So my guess would be that it would be a tool used by psychics who have hundreds of clients to file the details of everything said by the psychic as well as all the 'hits'. That way they can look over the notes prior to additional meetings to recall what has been talked about previously and refresh their memory of it. And it could also be used to plan additional sessions based on previous hits.

Actually it's pretty similar to what a doctor or therapist does. While they try to remember their patients, they keep copious notes to 'refresh' themselves on the details, so they don't have to ask you the same things repeatitively, and use the patient files to plan ahead for additional appointments.

Anyway that would be my guess. Maybe if you show where you saw the citiation it might be more clear if they're talking about a data collection method each one would use individually (which would make more sense to me) or an actual 'book' passed around.

Plus if it's an actually 'book' passed around, how do they get it? Plus if someone in ANY business had wealthy clients it seems unlikely that they'd want to share that information to help competitors.
