Why do the GOP moderates (Minus Mitt Romney who seems to have done the right thing) almost universally say that Obama's birthplace 'Is a distraction' or 'Isn't the main issue'.

What's so difficult about saying: 'President Obama was born in the United States. End of discussion.'?

You're not satisfied with "it's not an issue"; why should birthers be satisfied with "it's not the original birth certificate"?

Because let's face it, unless people say and do things exactly the way you would, using exactly the terminology and procedure you approve of, they're wrong.

If GOP moderates keep saying "it's not an issue", then they must be hiding something, amirite?

Former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty, a likely GOP presidential candidate next year, said today on MSNBC's Morning Joe, "I, for one, do not believe that we should be raising that issue. ... I think President Obama was born in the United States."
Seems clear enough for me. It would have been better if he left off "I think" but whatever. When they say 'It's not an issue' that implies that they think he is qualified to be president IMO.

Maybe because Obama is fighting so hard to keep his long form birth certificate hidden? He continues to let it be an issue.

I agree though. Why concentrate on that issue which does'nt matter one bit in the end when you should concentrate on how bad he has been.

Also, they probably dont know conclusively that he was born in the US so why say something so definitive that you cant backtrack from it IF they are wrong later like all politicians do.

No, he doesn't on both counts. It's "an issue" only to birthers because birthers are ignorant, racist idiots.

He continues to let it be an issue because it's helpful when the idiots self-identify.

McCain said as much during the 2008 campaign. It didn't matter.

The 'birther' conspiracy theory falls apart on logical grounds alone. The only way the "not born in the U.S." claim can work is to assert that the Republican Party and the Democratic Party conspired together to get Obama elected.

Name one thing that Obama has done to keep the "long form" birth certificate hidden.

You see, you had your chance right here in that post to not concentrate on that issue, but sadly no. You preceded this statement with the previous one, wherein you launch the birther argument that Obama is keeping the truth hidden.

...

Because he is playing you like a fiddle.

He could end this in seconds, most likely, but it is a valuable sapping of the efforts of many core GOP voters, and alienates independent voters from the GOP quite nicely.

He is too smart to put paid to it.

If it is true, it is true, regardless of who went along with what and why.

For your theory of the theory to work, The Republican Establishment Progressives would only have to at least not be aggressive against The Democratic Establishment Progressives insofar as they not enthusiastically support the opposition of the Conservatives and/or anti-establishment Independents.

The Washington Republican Establishment is happy to secure their second-fiddle seat at the ever-growing Big Government Progressive power and money feasting table.

Yes, it is all nothing... or... it is probably the greatest conspiracy of fraud and complicity of all time. Yep.

You still insist only on seeing this as Republican vs. Democrat. That is how this continues.

You cheer for your Cowboys and you boo their Redskins and you know what? The NFL thanks you.
