Birds aren't real!

The History said:
"Dulles and his team hated birds with a passion, and were heard on many occasions calling them,” flying slugs” and,” the scum of the skies,” as they would often poop on their cars in the parking lot of the C.I.A. headquarters, and quite frankly- all over the D.C. Metro area. I believe this was one of the driving forces that led Dulles to not only implement robots into the sky, but actually replace birds in the process."

One of my knucklehead kids is big on this one. Stickers and magnets and the works for all to see. Finds it a quirky conversation starter.

I remember reading an article about this on Snopes recently. It was created as a satire, and now the creator has taken it to the next level and turned it into performance art, insisting it's real, staging protests, and acting furious toward the people who are claiming that it's satire.

Evidencing the movement’s satirical motives, the Daily Beast dug up a Facebook post from the movement’s founder, Peter McIndoe, who in 2017 posted, “i made a satirical movement a few months ago, and people on instagram seem to like it a lot. now there’s a facebook so the moms of the current ‘bird truthers’ can be in on it too.”

Since then, McIndoe has changed gears. He now publicly commits fully to his character, a man who fervently believes birds are government spy-drones and travels the country spreading his message. Present-day McIndoe, thus, claimed it was a staffer who wrote that post, and that staffer has since been removed.

When asked about news articles that describe the movement as satirical, McIndoe told Snopes by email, “Our movement has been co-opted by internet trolls and people out to delegitimize us. While there are many satirical jokes made on the internet about us, we are not satirical and consider this labeling harmful to our cause.”

I understand this, honestly; and I wouldn't shame anyone who enjoys this joke and its trappings. But I'm afraid "nutty conspiracy theorists, lol" has lost pretty much all of its humor for me personally over the last few years.

This almost seems like escapism to a simpler time when CT's didn't really matter. Birds Aren't Real is a CT from a simpler time, when you could just scratch your head rather than worry how many of your insane neighbors believe this and are actively plotting to commit political murders because of it.

If birds don't exist I wonder who ***** on my car all the time.

We don't need a parody conspiracy theory that's not any dumber than half a dozen widely believed ones.
