Bacteria are being used to help protect penguins in UK zoos threatened by avian malaria.
Penguins appear to be more vulnerable to malaria

Dozens of birds in the country have been wiped out by the parasite responsible for the disease.

Now, scientists at the University of Cardiff have deployed the microbes in a spray to kill off the larvae of the insects which spread the parasite
Biological control - but the real interest is saving penguins!

I had a problem with fire ants so I thought I'd try the organic method. I got a box of beneficial nematodes and used them on my lawn. They are tiny worms that feed on ant and termite eggs and larvae. It took several months, but I watched one of the mounds get smaller and smaller, it's been 18 months and I haven't had a problem with any ants since. No chemicals and it actually worked, it's not instant like most chemicals, but it is cleaner.

Did you see the price of these penguins? $2,890 for a King Penguin! Now APs' GOTTA be as good as that, so how about we sell him on the net and donate the proceeds to JREF? How much do you think we should charge for APs' Sockpuppet? :D

Dear Dragonrock,

I used a similar natural approach, using water with pepper-juice mixed in instead of store-bought chemical pesticides, and bought several bags of ladybugs to feed on the aphids.

Sincerely,

S. H.

Personally, I think AP's Sockpuppet looks a lot like Mr Flibble, and that's a penguin I don't want to mess with! :)
