The explanation is the usual woo-master crap. "See, I told you. Geometric shapes. Aliens or Illuminati depending on which seminar you're here to attend. Buy my DVD on your way out."

They've been onto this for at least four years. Seems a strange idea. Sooper-Sekret organization designs an entire city in an area no one can easily get to, and does so with such blatant clues that those pesky kids are going to expose them.

There absolutely are "secret coalitions" of the rich and powerful that control aspects of civilization. For example, the Trumps of the world don't associate with us peones, and they get themselves out of trouble by calling upon friends in high (or low) places

They are greedy, not evil, and they don't hide in easy to sort ways. They don't hide at all. We might not know who is friends with whom, and who influences whom, but they arent hiding. They just operate in different circles.

Yes and they disagree or are in competition with each other.
 
Astana can't possibly be secretly controlling the world from behind the scenes. They'd never have arranged for Nibali to do so badly in today's time trial.
