Art vs Rachel

I mentioned this in another thread last night. That interview was one of the funniest, and at the same time frustrating things I have ever witnessed.

What a turd.

I am a big fan of Maddow. I admire her patience in this interview, and her temper control. Had it been me I would have just let him have it, called him a wingnut, and cut his mic.

I wonder if it will change any minds.

This year the US Senate and Congress are gonna have some set of winguts in it.

I have no doubt that conservatives will see this as Art Robinson totally putting Rachel in her place and exposing her as a "smear monger" or something to that effect.

Am I the only one who thinks that the majority of misunderstandings and miscommunications in these kinds of interviews could be eliminated if they could find a way to eliminate the 2-second delay between when one person speaks and when the other person hears it? 4:26-4:50 in the video is a prime example.

I've often thought the exact same thing, most recently last night when Lawrence O'Donnell was interviewing Lou Dobbs. It's amazing with all the technology we have they can't fix something that seems so simple.

I couldn't watch the whole thing. A few minutes in it was quite clear that he was a complete wingnut. Rachel just allowed him to demonstrate what a wingnut he is. If nothing else it should motivate the disgruntled left to get out and vote. The opposition is truly frightening.

The funniest part about that was that "scientist" Robinson denied that there could be a 1.5 second delay because the signal moved at the speed of light.

If the signal actually could travel between the participants at the speed of light, there wouldn't be a noticeable delay. A radio signal can travel all the way around the world in 1/7 of a second. What they need to do is fix the delays caused by other factors.

After the interview was over, someone on Rachel Maddow's production crew said "We can put a man on the moon, but we can't figure out how to transmit a satellite feed in real time", to which Art Robinson angrily responded, "We've never been to the moon".

Wait, really? Poe's law and all, but...really?

By the end she had her head down, looking at the floor, laughing at his insaneness.

I can't believe anyone would make a statement like that (I mean you, not him) without including a link to the source.

Edit: Never mind, it turns out that this is just johnny karate's idea of a joke.

It reminded me a lot of a presidential debate. A question is asked and the "debater" launches into a prepared diatribe which has nothing to do with the question. At least in a debate, you can be cut off. Robinson appeared to be vocally invincible to any power known to the universe.

Rachel didn't need to defeat him; he defeated himself. She was brilliant.

Sadly, from my following the elections this year, there is a subset of the USA population that will see that interview as given Rachel what she had coming to her.

Tea Party Rulez...NOT!
