The related ESO (European Southern Observatory) news.

What is apparently unexpected and amazes astrophysicists in this image is that HL Tauri (which is still in the process of becoming a full-fledged star) and its planets-in-becoming are forming simultaneously.

It's an image I never thought to see. That's clear, what's going on there, wow.

An accidental discovery during an ISS mission is in the process of re-writing this concept. Now it is thought planets could form as soon as the disk begins to take shape and become fully formed with frightening speed.

No paternity suit, so I'm good. :p

You know all jokes aside in a couple of hundred years they will look back on this era as a golden age of astronomy......And I am living right in the middle of it :)

Agreed. Things are being discovered/new techniques invented at an astonishing rate!

What's the apparent diameter here? Are we talking arc-seconds, fractions of an arc-second or even smaller.

They should be able to estimate the actual diameter of the disk.

That's not a solar system... that's a giant bullseye! (Clearly, some extra-terrestrial civilization wanted to play darts on a truly cosmic scale!)
