I'm starting a new thread on this, since I didn't want to hijack Ladewig's thread on a different news report.

KNBC in Los Angeles ran a segment last night on Allison DuBois (mainly to drum up ratings from people who watch "Medium", I would guess). Overall, I thought it was pretty good. While the reporter Patrick Healy didn't flat out say she's a con artist, he wasn't completely on her side either. Someone from the Skeptics society was interviewed, as was Gary Schwartz.

You can view it here although I don't know how long it will remain on their site. And it doesn't play well with Firefox. IE worked okay.

An email I sent to the author of this newspaper article:

Dear Ms. McClain,

I just read with some interest the article you wrote about Allison Dubois and Dr. Gary Schwartz. Perhaps you would be interested to know I have written an article about the reading for the woman in England to which you made reference in your article.

The deceased person who Ms. Dubois was supposedly in contact with, Montague Keen, was a well known paranormal investigator when he was alive. His wife, Veronica, was also in regular contact with mediums.

When Montague died, his death was known to all paranormal believers world-wide. And it was mediums who initiated the experiment you wrote about that Allison Dubois participated in. They claimed Montague Keen had contacted them and he wanted his wife Veronica to contact Dr. Schwartz to perform this contact between him and Allison Dubois.

If you are interested in the full facts, please read my article at http://www.skepticreport.com/psychics/schwartzkeen.htm

You claimed in your article that Ms. Dubois has solved cases for the Phoenix police and police in other states. I am very interested to know if you contaced any of these police agenices to verify Allison Dubois has solved cases for them, or is this something Ms. Dubois claimed and you accepted?

Thank you for your time.

I hope you will forgive me for not giving you my last name or location. (At this point, I gave Ms. McClain an explanation for this which are reasons that are personal)

Perhaps Ms. Dubois can tell you my last name and location through paranormal means...

Never got a response.

It's gone already!

And it was a really big link at the top of the list.

How weird.

Ugh. If you click on the tab near the top that says "Team 4 reports" that should take you to another page with the report on it, including the video. Stupid website.

Our local Fox News affiliate ran a story about a psychic last night. The psychic gave a reading about a local woman who has been missing for several months. My wife saw the story and called the station, furious. I was asleep and she told me about it this morning. They have a printed version on their web site so I read it and fired off the following e-mail:

I am very disappointed you have given any media time to R____ M_____ in the K_____ F_____ disappearance. This woman is a despicable creature exploiting the grief of a stricken family and using your station to make a name and money for herself.

Nothing she said in her claims is anything that isn't pure guesswork based on the outcome of most disappearances.

There were a number of psychics around the country who were
embarrassed when Elizabeth Smart turned out to be alive and well. One renowned remote viewing organization quickly pulled their dire press releases of her death and the location of her body they had been publishing regularly during her long absence shortly after she was found alive.

Not one psychic anywhere predicted 9/11.

So why in the world do you people give a psychic the time of day, much less free press?

There is enough junk on TV already without there being junk news. Is this really the best you can do?

I see in your online article about R_____ M_____ that she was holding some items which belonged to K_____ F_____. That suggests a family member is being exploited by Ms. M_____. Don't you care about that? Your report is condoning it. It's downright sickening.

I can give you some suggestions of how to properly test this claimed ability of Ms. M_____'s.

If you ever want to do a piece on what psychics are really all about, let me know. I have recently written an online article about Allison Dubois (whose life the show "Medium" is supposedly based on) and a test of her mediumship skills that was conducted by Gary Schwartz at the University of Arizona, and also was a part of a group of people who tracked the remote viewers (Psi-Tech) in the Elizabeth Smart case and exposed them as frauds. We were able to save all of the files they deleted from their web site when she was found alive.

I hope you get a response, Luke. I wrote to KTLA last week because they had Dr. Sha as a guest to heal another reporter's bad back with "power healing". I wrote to the station and told them that there is no scientific proof that chi exists, nor that remote healing works. All I got back from the reporter was a standard reply thanking me for watching the morning news. :(
