...not that many of you didn't already think so in general. I posted this in politics because he is often brought up as representative of Hollywood liberalism. I'm not one who is into ad homs, but I'm even less likely to care about anything political he says after this.

An enraged Alec Baldwin unleashed a volcanic tirade of threats and insults on his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland, calling her a "thoughtless little pig," and bashing her mother Kim Basinger -- and TMZ has obtained the whole thing unfiltered and raw. And, we've learned, the tape could cost Baldwin his visitation rights.

I did read two blog posts from Alec Baldwin on Huffingtonpost.com I think they were linked here on this board, and neither of them were very good. I don't care if Alec Baldwin is a lousy father or an uninteresting political commentator. He's a good actor. I did read the first page of comments, and some people are saying it's not his real voice on the phone. Ooooh, a conspiracy.

I've also lowered my personal opinion of Snide: He reads (and promotes!) TMZ.com

Ouch! :D I surely had that coming!

Truth be told, it is the first time I have visited the site. My wife sent me the link. I didn't even know who Perez Hilton was when he was a guest on "Identity."

ME: That's not Paris Hilton!
WIFE: Perez Hilton.
ME: Oh, you know, I think I have seen his name in print once before. Who is he?
WIFE: He's the guy who has the celebrity blog on TMZ.
ME: What's TMZ?

OK, now to explain why I was watching "Identity." :D Again, the wife...and I do get a kick out of Penn Jillette.
 
I guess it's frustrating when your daughter ignores your efforts to contact her.

Still no excuse for calling a little girl a pig or disparaging her mother like that.

But whatever...he's great in 30 Rock!

What level of depravity will this man descend to next? Will no one intervene? How can anyone who is so clearly unhinged have an opinion about things like war and monetary policy and health care, when he clearly hates his ex-wife?

I'm heterosexual but I'm secure in my sexuality so I can say that I seriously have a thing for Alec Baldwin. If it wasn't for the restraining order he might come to see that we were meant to be together... uh, anyway.

I think Baldwin is a great actor with a great sense of comic timing. His SNL stuff is usually outstanding. He is also great in serious roles. He, like George Clooney, is also really quite smart.

He is human. He makes mistakes.
 
One thing I can say in Alec Baldwin's defense - his ex-wife is much better looking than mine. ;)

Yeah, I know, but after listening to that call, assuming it's not a hoax, I just have real trouble thinking it was just a mistake. I've said some things to my son who is 12 that I wanted to take back, but nothing like that, and certainly not in a rant in which I couldn't seem to stop myself. I don't know...I think he's a great actor too, but I just don't know how smart he really is, in a well-rounded sort of way anyhow.
 
We don't know the rest of the story -- for all you know Basinger was telling her not to answer the phone when he calls at his appointed time just to piss him off.
 
An important thing to note is that Kim Basinger leaked a family incident to the media; embarassing her ex and their daughter.

Not exactly parent-of-the-year type stuff.

Unless the housekeeper leaked it. Or the gardener or personal chef. Or chaf..chau...limo driver.

Alec Baldwin is great on 30 Rock. But in real life, he's not looking so good right now.

In a voicemail tape acquired by TMZ.com - and quickly being picked up in blogs - the bigger-than-life actor is heard yelling at his 11-year-old daughter, calling her a "thoughtless little pig." It seems he's angry that she's not picking up the phone at the appointed time, and this sounds like it's not the first time she has stood him up. His divorce from Kim Basinger has long been acrimonious. And now, according to the website, Baldwin faces a May 4 hearing in Los Angeles County Superior Court and could lose visitation rights.

UDPATE: Baldwin issued a statement blaming Basinger for leaking the tape: “In the best interest of the child, Alec will do what the mother is pathologically incapable of doing…keeping his mouth shut and obeying the court order. The mother and her lawyer leaked this sealed material in violation of a court order. Although Alec acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child, everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years.”

And Access Hollywood notes that if it was Basinger who leaked the tape, it would not be her first time violating a court order. On October 4, she was arraigned on several misdemeanor counts of criminal contempt for allegedly disobeying court orders related to Baldwin's visitation rights of his daughter.

Basinger's side of the story? Her spokeswoman says simply: "The voice mail speaks for itself."

What in the name of Glengary Glen Ross is this story doing in the media? To leak it is a disgrace. For people to wallow in it is further disgraceful.

The subject matter is Arec Barrin's (as in, "You ah worfress, Arec Barrin") private life. Seriously, now. He has issues with his kid, and those are his issues, which ought to be handled without the interference of the general public.

He's mad at his kid, but maybe he has a right to be mad. I've known some parents--GOOD parents, too!--who have had to read the riot act to their kids. Nothing in this story indicates that Baldwin is in a different position than that faced by literally millions of parents, whether divorced or not.
 
I'm no great dad, but I can tell you I've never even thought about talking to either of my daughters like that. There was real hate in that tape. I know it's out of context, but calling your 11 year old daughter "a pig" is wayyyyy out of bounds. Gee, I thought liberals were big on building something called: "self-esteem"???

The fundamental problem here has nothing to do with politics, Web sites, or court cases.

The fundamental problem here is that these are two people who hate each other more than they love their child.
