Read about the evil ACLU here

RICHMOND, VA -- Under pressure from the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia, Falmouth Waterside Park Manager Brian Robinson has agreed not to prohibit baptisms in Stafford County, the ACLU announced today.
Robinson also told the ACLU that the Fredericksburg-Stafford Park Authority, which controls access to the public park, expects to issue written policies making it clear that religious groups have the same right to use the park as all other groups.
“This kind of confusion over religious expression in public places is not uncommon,” said ACLU of Virginia Executive Director Kent Willis. “Government officials often seem not to understand that private religious expression is protected in public forums. Afraid of violating separation of church and state by permitting religious activities, they end up obstructing freedom of religion.”

I bet that if Satanists come to do baptisms in that river the very first protests will be from that church in the article.

You think this story will make it to the Oreilly factor?

Hell no. He's been too busy tauting the ACLU's support of NAMBLA's website describing how to rape and kill children.

Freedom is only a true word in the mouth of the righteous!

I recently used this case, among others, when someone on another board began ranting that the ACLU was intent on persecuting Christians. He asked for just one example of the ACLU defending a Christian. When I gave several examples, he waved them all away and finally concluded that the ACLU had to defend in these cases in order to continue to persecute Christians in other cases!

I just don't understand how these "persecuted" Christians logically defend their stand. From where I stand, they seem to have the upper hand in the US!

You don't understand: it's not enough to be with them for 99.9% of all possible issues-- by opposing them .1% of the time, you are their mortal enemy for life. "Compromise" and "win a few, lose a few" and "give and take" are not part of the vocabulary. You must toe the line each and every time, in every case, in every issue. Even neutrality is not welcome, since failing to trumpet support is just as bad as supporting the opposition. (Which is how not teaching Creationism is exactly the same thing as teaching atheism.)

They just want utter, complete, universal, total domination of every aspect of life, getting their way in every conceivable case and issue. What's so unreasonable about that? Why, by not affirming how great that is, you're the enemy! Why are you persecuting them so much?

Feeling persecution and being religious seem to go hand in hand. How do the logically defend their position? Remember the level of logic they use to believe in God. Oh, let's also not forget how that logic continues when they choose which political party to support.

It always amuses me when I hear the right-wing-nuts and delusional religeous crowd demonize the ACLU. They also seem to bandy the word "freedom" a lot in these arguments.

IMHO the ACLU has done more to protect "feedom" than any other organization.

It’s a helluva note that the U.S. even needs an organization like the ACLU. You’d think the Constitution would have 285 million fierce defenders.

When I travel in the Midwest or the Atlantic seaboard, I carry my ACLU card in my wallet. When I travel to Wyoming or Idaho, I leave it at home. I don’t want to get hauled over by small-town cops in places like that and have them discover what a unpatriotical pinko commie socialist I am.

I think, on balance, that that’s a damned fine endorsement of the ACLU and of the work it does.
