Abu Ghraib Rumsfeld's fault -- NY Times

Front page article in NY Times today blames series of mistakes all the way up to Rumsfeld for Abu Ghraib. Does Bush fire anyone for gross incompetence? No. He fires the competent ones who object to his policies: Paul O'Neill, Richard Clarke, John Delillo.

I'll bet dollars to donuts that Bill O'Reilly will lead off tonight with a screed that the NY Times runs too many articles about Abu Ghraib. The substance of the article will be of no consequence. Any takers? I like chocolate iced.

I was wondering why Dick Cheney felt the need to talk about gay marriages less than 24 hours ago.

The NYT also ran a story blaming Rumsfeld for Gomer Pyle being put back on TV, inventing AIDS, and making false accusations of bias again the NYT. Shocking.

It's a pity you can't figure out how to register so you can read NYT articles. It might help you look slightly less an idiot. For the article says:

Beginning in late 2002, the panel said, Mr. Rumsfeld and his staff set the stage for an environment in which abuses later became widespread. They did this first by sowing confusion about what kinds of interrogation techniques would be permitted, then by failing to plan for the intensity of the post-invasion insurgency, and finally by delaying for months in dispatching reinforcements to help the American guards at Abu Ghraib contend with the swelling number of prisoners.

In other words, not just the NYT's opinion, but the panel investigating the Abu Ghraib fiasco. I'm sure Rummy's still your hero, though.

Sooooo damning, my goodness. This is the smoking gun. My goodness Manifesto, you sure showed me. Now go back to reading that bastion of intellect, This Modern World and let the grown ups discuss politics son.

Would that, perchance, involve using the words 'woo-woo', 'dupe' and 'mark' in the same sentence; making blanket assertions without evidence or argument; and, let us not forget, constantly whining about "This Modern World" in the hope someone will give a shight?

I am assuming that you are being sarcastic here. I am not sure why. Is there some aspect of This Modern World that you find unintellectual? It does have a very pointed agenda, but I hardly consider pointing out the problems with McNews, the silliness of Rush Limbaugh's positions, and the dynamics of the current administration to be unintellectual.

A better example of being unintellectual would be President Bush's comment that the jury is still out on evolution.

When I was one of those anti-establishment types in high schoolers I read "This Modern World" in my local knockoff of the village voice. This was around.... 92? 93?

Then I started reading newspapers and realized how shallow and perception based the toon was.

Honestly, I put it away along with MTV and my black clothes as I grew out of that crap. If "This Modern World" is a better cartoon 10 years later, I must not be reading the ones that are so good. I occasionally will see a strip someone links to and its always just riding the latest meme. Sorta like Boondocks but whiter.

Meme. How could I forget meme?

The panel reviewing Abu Ghraib's report is available in pdf format here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/24_08_04_abughraibreport.pdf

I only browsed it, there are some interesting bits. Of interest is the chart on page 112 called "Evolution of Interrogation Techniques". It shows which activities were allowed, and when
they were made permissable.

I love the euphemism "sleep adjustment". Orwellian!

The report also quotes the Zimbardo experiment--that guy's never going to live that down, is he?

Fair enough.
