Today, driving down the road I passed a church with a sign board out front. Normally I am amused by the stupid aphorisms displayed, like 'Without God's light there is no sight.' but the one I saw actually scared me as I drove by.

"You and God are a majority!"

Anyone who holds religion blameless for atrocities can now look to signs such as this that tell believers that their majority is made up of their own thoughts and God's permission.

Now they can't complain about being a persecuted minority!

But a very minor one

Guess who :p

I agree and disagree. I actually think that people who believe in God are a large majority. However, I think that the fundamentalists who would try to do away with the seperation of Church and State are in a small minority. Most theists in America are not fundamentalist Christians. I think that the sign is scary in the sense that it implies that the majority of America believes in God and therefore they have a lot of power. However, I think that most people (even most Christians) feel very strongly about the seperation of Church and state. Even though the religious right is a strong voting block in this country, I don't think they will ever be in the majority. Many rational thinking Catholics, Lutherans, etc... dislike the Falwells and Robertsons as much as atheists.
