As red states go, they don't get much redder than Utah. Thus I was glad to hear that a bill requiring a disclaimer about evolution was being fought against by that state senate's top Republicans. Even though a Republican introduced it in the first place.
It's good to see that some conservative politicians very openly disassociating themselves from this ID nonsense. Here's hoping more follow suit.
State Rep. Stephen Urquhart, the majority whip, has already said that instead of rounding up Republican support for the measure he will vote against it.
Urquhart believes the bill undermines religion as well as science. But Rep. James A. Ferrin, the bill`s Republican sponsor in the House, says the measure is 'not about belief, it`s about not overstepping what we know.'
On the other hand, the Republican Majority Leader in the Senate, Peter Knudson, says 'Of course, it`s about religion.
