Hey all. I was reasearching fruitarianism and came across this site: http://hem.fyristorg.com/fruitarian/ . Feel free to take a look, although I quote what is important below.
I thought it looked like bunk, so I send the email to the author below asking and got this reply. When will people learn that 1 experience is not data. *Bangs head on wall*.

Subject: Fruitarian website

I have some problems with things on your site.
I am a vegetarian and I find fruitarianism interesting, although I do not intend on becoming one. However, some thing on your site seem very suspicious.

"How do you get all the protein you need?
Well, how much does a person need? For sure you can't look in a table for values, because these tables are made for omnivores. When you become a fruitarian your rate of nutrient assimilation increases. The rate might be 70-80% for fruitarians and maybe 20-30% for omnivores."

*** Where did you learn this? I don´t see why it would be true.

"This means that fruitarians need a whole lot less protein (and other nutrients too, of course) than omnivores. Some say that the human body, no matter what, uses 20-25 g of protein/day. Well, let's say they're right and that a fruitarian then should need about 30 g protein/day."

*** I complete jump. "Some say that..." does not make it true. Who says that anyway and why are you so inclind to believe them?

"All fruit contains about 1% protein; that is 10 g per kg. Avocado (which most fruitarians eat a lot of) contains more, between 2-3%. I don't know for sure how much other fruitarians eat, but I eat 2.5-3.5 kg of fruit a day, which means that I get 25-35 g of protein/day (probably a bit more due to the avocados). We can see that it's enough, because I needed about 30 g/day."

*** Jumping from "some say that" to "because i needed only" is insane.

"The banana, for example, contains all essential amino-acids and a couple more. In fact, in a banana you can find everything your body needs!"

*** Does the banana contain Iron? Does it contain Vitimin B12? I didn´t think so. I´ll find more things the banana doesn´t contain but I think its pretty clear thats not the truth.

"How do you get the essential fatty-acids?
All fruit (except watermelon) contains between 0.5-1.3 g of fat. A varied fruit diet will easily get you the essential fatty-acids. And then there is the avocado! About 16-20 g fat and all the essentials included."

***Maybe true, but a reference would be nice.

Thanks for reading, I eagerly await your responce.

Hi Robert,
Nice to hear that you like the fruitarian way. I have been a fruitarian for nearely 20 years so for me the old nutrition knowledge has no interest the main thing is the total amount and degree of love which will be included in the fruits. This will be in my coming book (in english) with a lot of advice on all levels.
Good luck
Fruit greetings

I love this line

"The body can be fruitarian to 50% or 75% or whatever, but the important thing is that you are 100% fruitarian in your mind!"

So I may ony be about 2% frutiarian but in my mind I'm a true fruitarian. I think this guy is a fruticake.

I wondered about that line. I'm not sure what it means. That you don't have to eat only fruit to be a fruitarian? Then when he says he's been a fruitarian for 20 years, what does that mean? In his mind?

I have seen other fruitarian sites, and now I look for the exclamation points. This guy isn't so bad, but I think there's something about eating fruit that makes people use more of them. As in: How to Become a Fruitarian! :) !!! :)
