Derek has updated the original article to demo Buzzfeeds responce (they removed all the site listings to items that turned out not in their favor/showed they were wrong/lied as the case may be). He also adds a new shorter blog on the general topic of additives/food safety and is planning some bit more as time allows. The most recent stuff AND the original article as it was and noting modifications Buzzfeed made after Derek's blog came out exposing them are here: http://pipeline.corante.com/archives/2013/06/

Buzzfeed is just lists of reposted stuff from elsewhere. It's not meant to be scientific or anything other than fluff. It's things people can look at to while away some time. It features made-up lists of celebrity photos, animal gifs, pics of people crashing things, etc. What did you expect? It's not like it's a CNN news piece. You can't really expose something that wasn't serious to begin with. I didn't comment before because it's not very important, IMHO. If you want to clean up the Internet, there are other places to start than Buzzfeed.

Buzzfeed actually wasn't the ultimate point - the point really is and was Derek Lowe on debunking things in my field (well, one of them) and helping others who may be interested in the specific topic AND, hopefully other areas he writes on in the field of chemistry. One the other hand, he did a nice job of exposing them for those who really tend to stay unfamiliar with harborers of ignorance and are thus less equipped to take on the gigantic mass of trash they put out. Too many people do not know how to seperate trash from not-trash. Derek helps with that. :):)
