Why 3?

Does it show that that we're especially concerned?

What's with the more normal 1 or 2?

How is it calculated?

Is there some complex formula that works out how many people care, how many of them are rich, how many people died, how much has been donated, how much needs to be donated etc.

Or is it some random person in a office going "Hmm... 1 minute...no, two?....nah.. let's go for three! Woo hoo!"

There was a 3 minute silence across the EU today (iro the Tsunami disaster).

Why they felt they had to outbid the WW1 remembrance minute I have no idea... maybe inflation linked...

Oooohhhh....Thanks for the explanation. The post seemed, uh, kinda random. :)

Well, the remembrance day one is an annual event. This is a one-off, so it makes sense to give it full welly. Besides, just from the point of view of self-interest this is (I assume) the biggest loss of European lives since the last war, and seems worth making an effort for.

Uhmm... For three nations hit hard by the tsunami? No, it was at least five...

Erm... One each for the father, the son, and the holy ghost?

That doesn't make sense, either...

Okay, I'm stumped.
