For the last couple of days, whenever I visit the JREF site it triggers my Avast software to put up the following warning...
Is JREF's site infected? This doesn't have anything to do with my computer, does it?

Okay, this post is mostly a vent and plea for sympathy since I've got the problem under control (excepting one oddity which you'll hear more about later), but any advice -- other than "get a Mac", "get Linux", and the like -- is more than welcome.
Computer details: I'm running Windows 7...
So I got this virus on my comp. I've read it spreads through external drives, and that's precisely what happened to me. I inserted an infected pendrive (unknowingly) and it immediatly infected all my other external drives. And couriusly only the externals are infected, not the C drive.
So far...
Lately I have come across a rather horrid piece of Malware calling itself "vista internet security 2011". From what I have read it also names itself after Windows XP and Windows 7 as well. None the less, it manages to completely block you from accessing programs or the internet less you purchase...
Well, this is lovely. I have some variant of the "Windows Repair" trojan on my machine. I got this once before and could boot in safe mode to clean things up. This time I cannot boot in any of the variants of safe mode. I see a few files being loaded and then get a stop code of 0000007b. That...
...to install itself on your computer?
I just clicked a link to an article about Michael Moore's reaction to the killing of Osama bin Laden. I should know better than to care what Michael Moore thinks, but I was bored.
As soon as I clicked the link, a new window opened that looked like my...
I have no idea. Do you? What motivates someone to spend good time producing something that people will hate them for, if they even knew who did it, which most of the time they don't?

Hey all, I was hoping to get some advice from the knowledgeable people here. I've tried searching around on the net for answers but keep going in circles and end up at many different utilities that I have to buy to take full advantage of.
Short version of the story is I was infected by some...
OK, I have a problem where I go to google (I haven't tried other search engines yet) type in a query, click on a result and I end up on a different page. Thing is, page is usually related to the search string. I clicked link covering the Google redirect virus and ended up on a page advetising a...
The silly naturopath in my city writes a semi-regular article for the local weekly paper. One of the things she mentioned in this issue was that she had attended a "biological medicine" conference where she learned the new theory that viruses, bacteria, and parasites were simply the same...
I'm just wondering 'cos it started throwing up some "HTTP TDServ Requests" and telling me they were blocked and nothing to worry about - then i decided to google them and found out that actually they're a signature of quite a nasty infection. So i downloaded some progs which discovered a virus...
It's proven to be a real bugger. It disabled his real anti-virus system and Malwarebytes can't seem to do anything with it. It blocks access to any website with anything antivirus related content.
I think my dad's comp might be royally screwed. It's older and I don't think he has any recovery...
This is not a roofing thread.
I've got freaking shingles!
What a hassle!
Not seeking medical advice so much as commiseration.
I was late in taking action. I thought the rash was from a mess of tick bites I had in the same area as the rash. My googling told me that the anti-viral meds were...
Got an Asus EEE notebook which has been fine until today. Last night it locked up when I attempted to shut down, getting as far as the "windows is shutting down" blue screen, then staying like that for about ten minutes when I manually turned it off. Today it'll run fine for a couple of hours...
I couldn't find the original posting on this subject, but I did get a screen shot of what's been happening when I navigate through randi.org. I get a virus warning from my AVG free software and here it is. It happens anywhere on the site and I guess I am the only one that's been getting this...
I managed to download this malware. It shusts down my legit AntiVirus Program (Norton's Antivirus) and bombards me with messages asking me to purchase the full program. I have tried to download some programs that will remove it, but it blocks those programs. How do I get rid of this thing?
The...
I had downloaded the latest version of Paltalk (I think - I may have gotten it from a spoof site instead). I may have clicked an ad link by mistake but had not accessed or downloaded anything other than the usual. The next day I had problems starting the computer -- apparently there has been...
Hi
I've recently made a professional decision which means that from now on I will depend on my computer to work. That means I need my computer to be 100% clean and protected from internet garbage. I know that everyone says that Macs never get viruses, but let me tell you something gentlemen...
Got a spam email this morning, What was so different about it?
The subject line was "Evacuation process has been started due to radiation leaks at Sizewell B Suffolk Nucklear Power Station".
The message was:
"BBC, Suffolk - Major Problems have been occured at Sizewell B Nucklear Power Station...
I keep reading news about mutated strain on virues, which are resistant to anti-biotics:
Gene mutation leads to super-virulent strain of TB, finds new study
http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2003/12/08_mutation.shtml
The evolution of the virus says it is getting close to getting...
I've been cleaning the nasties off a neighbour's badly infected PC and came across a problem I'd never seen before - after installing and running Spybot Search&Detroy and SpywareBlaster, Ad-Aware would crash at the same point during a scan (tried three times).
Further investigation showed that...
I can’t figure out what’s causing this. My wireless connection status says it’s speed is 54 Mbps and signal strength is good. Yet pages are loading like back in the days when I used free modem based connection, actually worse than that! I can barely browse a forum now. I’ve tried both firefox...
Vaccine on the way for AIDS-Like Pig Virus
Hence characterizing this disease as AIDS-like in its effects.
Amazingly a mere $70,000.00 research grant promises to have a vaccination study finished within the month! Pocket change for human medical research.
Excerpted from...
I'm wondering if this has happend to anyone else? This is a serious problem for me. For months I've had this issue with an anti-virus program, I knew it had been taken over and the best I could do was delete the EXE. file. No anti-virus programs I used picked up on this.
Now witness today: I'm...
Norton in the last couple days has found two "keylogger" viruses on my computer. I haven't downloaded any suspicious programs or done anything out of the ordinary. I have been to a few web sites that I had not visited before. Can you get a virus just by looking at a web page?
Should I be...
Okay, I'm going to be working away from home for a while, so my boss tells me I MUST have Virus Protection on the machine.
What's everyone's opinion on what is the best, bearing price in mind. I don't want to pay anything outrageous.
Edited to add: Please don't say "condoms".

"A virus that infects chalk-covered marine algae has been found to contain compounds that could be used in anti-ageing and other treatments, a British team reports today."
Now this, this is pretty cool. I'd like to see them get some kind of cancer therapy out of this at the least. The story also states that they're looking at AAV-2 for gene therapy.
Found this on www.overpopulation.org. To be fair, the honourable kumar found the site as part of another thread.
