Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.
I was trying to find the name of a deceased female cookery writer (Jane Grigson) and did so by searching Amazon for the book in question - English Food. While there I checked out the reviews.
One was in German.

The longer I do it, the more difficult it gets. It really should be the other way around, it should get easier. And of course it does, in one way. Translation has been part of most of my jobs for about thirty years, and that has gotten easier. But the translations I have been doing as part of...
A small church in Canton, NC has announced plans to hold a book burning on Halloween. The books they plan to burn? The bible, naturally!
I'm certainly no biblical scholar. The closest I get to that is visiting this forum and having read a little Bart Erhman. For you folks who know this far...
Hello skeptics,
I'm a Polish guy, who wants to make James Randi more accessible to the Polish-speaking world. I've found out that there's a web app allowing to add subtitles to YouTube videos. (I can't post a working link yet, I'm under 15 messages).

I was e-mailed by the author of this book. He said he used some of my quotes and analysis of evidence in his book. The title is "The Trap of Conspiracy Theories". I wish I knew how to read Japanese.

3.3 - 4.0 = A

2.4 - 1.7 = C
1.6 - 1.0 = D
.9 - = F
I vaguely recall it varying some (eg some places 3.0 was the A cutoff etc) but can anyone confirm/deny a "norm" and/or how to translate a numeric grade (eg 90%...
This ruling from the European Court of Human Rights may be of interest in the current debate about the Mohammad drawings, but since I can't understand French and it isn't available in English a "scholar" is need. Would anybody undertake the task??
The ruling is here...
It's from a person who works for CNN, senior editor for Arab affairs Octavia Nasr. If you don't think she (or he?) translated it correctly, feel free to give us your version.

I report. You decide.
Edit to add...
Medical aspects of the world is not my thing. I'm down right squimish when things, that ought to be in the body, aren't, so I've spent my life avoiding learning about such things.
However, now my father has taken a flip off his bicycle and landed on his head. I need help and/or resources for...
Reading Henry Miller's "Tropic of Cancer". He uses the phrase avec de choses inouies and, smart alec that he is, refuses to translate it. Because everyone knows French, don't you know.
Well, I'm Canadian, know a smidge of French, and have never heard of the word 'inouies'. I suspect it's rude...
