Given all the discussion, I'm thinking it would be a good idea to eliminate corporate taxes completely. Here is an older article in the Atlantic about this. A bunch of carve outs and deductions for specific business would have to be eliminated.
By doing this, I think we would make it much...
Hi all,
I've been following the threads in this section lately and have to admit I've been interested and researching on my own to try and keep up. I'm hoping to hear opinions on the APT tax (Automated Payment Transaction Tax) and how it might affect our economy vs the tax reform being...

I guess when you live in the fantasy world that we don't really need to fund government services with taxes ...
Governments of first-world nations spend huge amounts of money on public infrastructure and services. These same nations also tend to impose income tax.
Assuming we want to retain these services, that we want to continue developing and maintaining the infrastructure, and assuming that we also...

Why Home Prices Are Double Dipping
So the tax credit increased the deficit and merely postponed the bottom.
There's various other subsidies to home buyers too, such as the mortgage interest rate deduction, and Fannie, Freddie and Ginnie. All of these of course increase the deficit, while...
So, there's something I don't get about the Democratic position with respect to the budget and the prospect of a government shutdown.
The Republicans want to cut spending, although not enough to really address the deficit, but some.
The Democrats want to cut spending, but not as much as the...

I got an email, and checked the eBay website and found it to be true.
From the email:
$20,000 seems quite a bit, I know, but how concerned should I be about this?
This thread was inspired by the following post in the Detax Canada thread:

George W. Bush set in motion what should be some interesting political theater. Ten years ago, he passed a tax bill with a sunset provision. If Congress does nothing, our taxes go up, fairly substantially, especially at the upper incomes and for families with children.
Now we have a very odd...
Education is in a crisis in this country. Tens of thousands of teachers will be laid off this year and student to teacher ratios will more than double. On top of this entire departments, especially art, music and drama ones, will be eliminated. All for lack of money.
But we have the Tea Party...

I heard a rumor that Obama is going to tax vital medical equipment to obtain the funds he needs to balance and maintain his new medical policy. (This info bugger is sketchy as hell so it's being put in the conspiracy theory section. I'm looking for info on debunk/confirm this info.)
Even if I didn't lose any money in the current crisis, the interview between Bill Moyers and William K. Black made me quite angry about the scope of WTF was - and according to him - STILL IS going on behind the scenes:

My hopes that she'll actually answer these questions are not very high, but I figured I'd oblige her demand that a new thread be started about this, just to confirm my suspicion that she has no answers for them.

I didn't think a judge at sentencing can acquit someone who has been convicted by a jury. Is it possible? If so, on what grounds?
