SInce I mentioned branes in one of my other posts I thought I would ask for some opinions here regarding the topic. What do you guys think, is the theory true or false?

Well, I must confess that I know nothing at all about string theory, except perhaps that it makes no testable predictions. At least, that's what I remember reading.
Just posting this as an interesting link. :)
Review of the book, Hiding in the Mirror by Lawrence Krauss.
When I asked physicists like Nobel Prize-winner Frank Wilczek and string theory superstar Edward Witten for ideas about how to prove string theory, they typically began with scenarios like, "Let's say we had a particle accelerator...

so my question for the myriad number of people on this board that are better versed in science than myself is: Why is it called string theory anyway?
Big bang and string theoryandhowatomsandmoleculesmighthavebeencreated
I think that since strings are at the heart of all reality, then they were what made up the big bang because that was energy. And then the big bang's strings interacted and transformed into other kinds of strings with...
Currently, the "Link to this post" link will only copy the post's url to the clipboard in IE. This is primarily due to the limited scope of my knowledge of javascript. I'd like to expand this ability to other browsers, but I'm about fried at the moment. So, I thought I'd appeal to the board...
A decimal point got dropped som'ers, I do believe...I get 3.743 (and change) inches divided by inches per second...
As I recall, when dividing, invert and multiply...the inches cancel out...so you get an answer of 3.743(etc) seconds...which means...what? The answer isn't even a length, it's a...
The new atom smasher being built on the French/Swiss border (I think) is going to be SEVEN times stronger than Fermilab.
This is perhaps the only chance in near times to have a chance of testing supersymmetry (Which, in my opinion, would be a bigger discovery than life on Mars), which would be...
Thanks to The Smoking Gun, we have access to the trademark application, and its rejection, by the Kabbalah Centre in L.A. that caters to Madonna, etc, for Kabbalah Red String.
Apparently, to wear a red string around your wrist fends off the evil eye.
I suggest that Michael Jackson wrap...
I think that an experiment needs to be done to confirm whether or not String Theroy is correct. I also think that some kind of expirement could be done using the energy that these one dimensional strings have. Can anyone here think of some expirement that can be done in this way?
On 10/28 NOVA [a well respected PBS Science program] will feature a report by Brian Green discussing his 1999 book "The Elegant Universe". It's a 3 hour program in, I believe, 2 parts.
I found Greene's writing to be very good in explaining physics. I will admit that his explanations of string...
Dear all,
I attended a presentation on String Theory the other week. This was held by the physics department of a university near-by.
The role of vibrations sure was interesting, as were the many mathematical tricks used to make the theory work.
Sincerely,
S. Holmes
