Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.
I am not referring to meth or other forms of stimulants. Rather, I mean the magnitude of an objects's instantaneous velocity (here). The claim is repeatedly being made by our Truther friends that jet planes crashing into the WTC and Pentagon could not have caused the damage that was observed...
Perhaps this belongs in Sizzler’s recent thread. While there’s some overlap, I didn’t find exactly what I’m looking for (maybe I didn't look hard enough). Nor is my theme quite the same. Unlike Sizzler, I’ll state at the outset I’m not a truther by any stretch of the imagination (see...
Interesting video I found on youtube which debunks the claims made by no planers that Flight 175 speed and impact was impossible

Hello everybody,
Just a few questions that are on my mind.
1) If something is travelling faster than sound, is it correct to say that an observer towards whom the object is travelling will see it closing in in complete silence (barring any ambiant noise, of course)? If so, at which point...
Is this for real? Why isn't it making more headlines?
I want one.

I was watching Abby's talking with dorks video just now and at about 1:30 there's a guy making the infamous "speed of gravity" argument.
And it got me thinking; has gravity been shown to have a rate of propagation?
If yes, what is that speed?
What would happen if the mass of one of the twin...
One of those things that enters your mind while you wait to fall asleep:
The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second in a vaccuum. It slows down when it enters another medium (if a vaccuum can be called a medium), such as a lens, a copper wire, whatever. The deceleration is essentially...
Hi,
I have a PC (bought in 2002, works perfectly otherwise) with XP pro and an Audigy 1 sound card. It has the following DVD and CD burner drives:
Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616T
Plextor CD-R PX-W4012A
These drives are the originals and exhibit no problems other than the following:
Whenever I...

Normally, I wouldn't have mentioned the associated link, but the lady mentioned as The Voice of Bart Simpson (Nancy Cartwright) is a...
For my school (I study journalism) I have to do a lot of reading. I'd like to learn to read faster as it would save me a lot of time. On the internet I found information about a lot of different speed reading techniques. Have any of you ever tried any of those, and did it work for you?
we should learn from the past. people thought flying in machines were imposible just because it seemed so.
Fact is, the light travels from one point to another.
It is just speed, no matter what you think.
The speed of light just seems to be the Fastest there is.
using the speed of light as a...
If it is impossible to travel faster then the speed of light, then it must also be impossible to travel faster than half the speed of light because of the following . . .
If A travels away from “static” position B faster than half the speed of light, and C travels away from B faster than half...
OK, so I get most of the approaching speed of light marlarky. But as you approach the speed of light, your mass increases right?
Ok just past Pluto, there is planet X. It is traveling at roughly 0.8 c relative to Earth. That's quite fast. Now an intrepid space travelling guy launches his ship...
This came to mind while reading through the posts on the sound/light thread.
Why 186,000 mps? Why not some lesser or higher amount? Or, why not no speed at all...where the light instantly gets form point a to point b?
What did God have in mind that he 'knew' that it had to be this way, or...
Ok, I have a question that I hope makes sense, and have been unable to answer on my own. I consider my knowledge of general science to be a bit above average (not saying much considering the average American's grip of the subject) but I recently came across something that is more than a bit...
Simple question. What actually is the speed of electricity in a wire?
Specifically a phone call in a standard twisted pair copper wire?
I'm mildly curious about how far an electronic bank transfer actually could have gone in the five days it is predicted to take.
(It will be required to cover...
Ok, I strap on a rocket and slowly accelerate towards the speed of light.
Of course, assume I don't accelerate so fast that my skin is torn off and thrown around like confetti.
If you're wondering how I'll eat and breathe and other science facts, repeat to yourself "It's just a question, I...
This came up amongst some of us students before our Calculus II class started and unfortunately, none our physics is quite up to snuff on this.
You've got two particles being launched at each other in a particle accelorator. When they pass each other, by the theory of relativity, would the...
Speed Reading Class
Here’s the situation.
The place I work is having us set through the Evelyn Woods Reading Dynamics Video Class. It’s broken up into three separate classes each a couple of hours long.
I’ve looked it up in the Skeptics Dictionary online and it gives a brief rundown...
So, we measure a distance by how far an object will travel in a certain amount of time. And we measure a speed by how long it takes an object to travel a certain distance. But, we measure that distance by how far an object travels in a certain amount of time...
I think I'm missing something...
I have a Linksys WRT54GS
and was wondering what kind of performance hit (if any) I will take when I move from my current wired config to wireless?
I play some games on the internet, sometimes with both machines simultaneously. Will it be better to leave one machine wired and the other...
Audio on my computer is running at 1/2 speed
I just updated Win XP, rebooted the system and now my audio is slow and distorted. Anyone have any recommendations for fixing this? I tried searching on the net and Win help, but it was of little use.
Thanks.
I was thinking about this the other day, maybe someone can explain this to me. A child who has attention deficit disorder (ADD) is supposed take drugs like Ritalin, which is much like methamphetamine. Now I have never had any drugs like Cocaine or methamphetamine, but I have read that it is...

I posted this here because it is connected with my "Only God exists" philosophy.
I claimed that my philosophy actually predicts/explains that the speed of light should be absolute (in the sense that it is), since it does not emanate from a source outside of us, but from our Mind itself. It's...
I just got a new broadband service and would like to use a software to keep track of its speed. What's the current best software for that?
I liked VitalAgent, but the latest versions suck and I lost the installer to the one I previously had. Oh, freeware preferred. Thanks!
Okay, I tried to sprint a mile. It took me 7 minutes, 30 secons. I am 5 feet tall. Is this a crappy time?
It might be a crappy time. I run 5 miles in 45 minutes. An x-marine I met can do 10 miles in 60 minutes. He can sprint his miles in 5 minutes, or even 4 minutes 30 seconds.
Dang.
