Australian company Enviromission has announced that it will begin construction of a pilot solar tower this year. The idea is to untimitely build the world's tallest construction, a tower more that a kilometer high. At the base will be a canopy, or hothouse, with a diameter of 5-7 kilometers...
A £25,000 solar-powered portable operating theatre which can be set up within 10 minutes has been unveiled by its Kent inventor.
The "hospital-in-a-box" can also run on pedal power and be used in developing countries and disaster zones.
The CompactOR operating theatre was invented by Alexander...
As there is no question that solar cycles influence our behavior and so do (at least to some extent) lunar cycles, could any scientific case be made for a solar/lunar astrology of any sort?

Anyone else been noticing the effect of the recent solar flares on their internet connection. I have and also I noticed that I could hear it on my cordless phone as well.
I know that someone over in Russia claimed that the Solar Sail Crashed and then people were traking it. I also know that Japan recently test launched their own version of a Solar Sail. Could that be what they were traking over in Russia?
Does anyone have any information on this? A friend of mine received a paper which said global warming is caused by solar flares. IIRC, this is not true. It seems I remember reading a response on this forum explaining why, but doing a search on this topic on this forum is a daunting task.
I just wanted to know why the first Cosmos 1 Solar Sail didn't work a year ago or sometime before that? I know that it fell back to Earth. Why did it fall back? Was there a mechanical problem with it?

I am going to build a house shortly and I thought about solar heating and electricity generation.
After checking out some sites, it became apparent to me that the financials just don't work. It seems that the payback is about 20 years for an electric system. I am uncomfortable with tieing...
Couldn't see other threads about this discovery:

I wonder how long Pluto will still be called a planet.
I also wonder whether the Planet X believers will claim that this is the one
Alright, I have heard this for years, but in the last week or so (with Bush's upcoming announcements and all) it has come up a lot more. A viable reason to establish a lunar base, besides serving as a jumping point for Martian and outer solar system exploration and exploitation, is that we...
I know that Cosmos Studios and the Babikin Space Center in Russia are going to launch a Solar Sail into space. They were talking about someday using lasers to propell the Solar Sail into space. I think that there should be a laser on the back of the Solar Sail that's aimed at the sails on it...

Discover magazine (August 2003) had an article about a new design for a solar power array. Instead of photovoltaic panels. it has an array of mirrors that focus the sunlight & heat on a Stirling engine.

I took some pictures. Taken in Narvik, Norway.
I wish I had bought som of those glasses ahead of time. It wasn't very fun standing there knowing that you couldn't see the best eclipse in 50 years.
