A friend of mine was told that a freckle is an indication of 'permanently damaged skin'. I can't find anything online that substantiates this. Is there anything to this claim, or is it, as I suspect, a silly, subjective piece of derma-woo?
Anyone know the mechanism for thickening of skin?
I was reading about barefoot walking and the article said that walking on gravel stimulated rapid skin thickening on the soles whereas walking on smooth concrete would wear the skin down faster than it grew because it didn't stimulate it...
I'm a bit skeptical about the scientific rigour of these studies. I think it's fair to say the study authors generally are expecting the answer that they find: that skin color correlates with earning power. I know of two studies thus far: this one on immigrants, and another one mentioned briefly...
Hi,
My girlfriend is seeing a hypnotist to assist her giving up smoking.
During the first session the hypnotist put a needle clean through the skin on the back of her hand without pain to prove she was 'under'. Now this sounds like a trick to me but I can't find any reference to it on the...

Since I've been blogging on and off about the infestation of squirrel botflies in the woods behind my house, and the resulting lumpy squirrels, somebody asked me my opinion on these the other day, and I'd never heard of them.

My friend has a horse that has itchy skin. It's been variously diagnosed as fly-bite sensitivity, and other things which have slipped my mind at the moment. The latest vet suggested feeding the horse half a cup of yogurt daily to change the intestinal flora that might be causing him to itch...
Does every animal have some sort of natural, physical "healing" capability? If so, is there reason to believe that this is a capability that evolves?
If I get a paper cut on my leg, it will heal itself and be good as new. If I get a bad cut on my leg, it will heal itself, but maybe leave a...
I HATE moles. I never cared for them. I don't even like those supposed beauty marks (like Ginger had on Gilligan's island.) Some people are just riddled with them. I know a real cute girl whose face is ruined by all these raised moles. i don't even like the ones that AREN'T raised. Do monkeys...
