Has anyone read about Sharansky's views on the Israeli settlements in Gaza and the West Bank? I know he was the minister in charge of settlements but I could not any quote for why he thought they were alright.
Settlement are one the two things that Israel has done that seem clearly immoral...
His inauguration speech was a Sharansky cut and paste job, apparently. I don't think he really meant a word of it, or he did, but he doesn't actually understand a word of it.

The book club threads have not been as lively as I had hoped. I thought I might try to post some of Sharansky's idea to encourage more people to get involved in the book club.

Jimmy Carter claimed to be more idealistically driven but my memory is that he was a supporter of detente. In any case, his foreign policy was a failure.
