About a decade ago "lean beef trimmings" began to be added to hamburger. The product is only being used in the US as far as I can tell. And it may or may not be in the hamburger you personally eat. But in the thread where we are discussing the issues almost no one but me reports that hamburger...

This is very interesting and telling to me. Not just as a vegetarian. Hell, I'm an alcoholic who loves cheese, so I can't be holier-than-thou. I just find this interesting. I'm usually pretty skeptical about nutrition science...
So my mother and her husband love to watch the tv show, The Doctors were some MDs sit and take questions and talk about health issues.
My mother tells me yesterday that, according to the doctors on the show, sliced turkey deli meat is the most artery clogging and hardening food there is. Now...
Interesting article I came across. It is very short, but it brought up some thoughts. Not sure which sub-forum I should put it in though, so if a mod thinks it should go somewhere else, feel free to move it.
Basically, a restaurant in Mesa, Arizona (a suburb of Phoenix) decides to sell lion...

In a debate with friends about meat, the clame came up that, would Humans not have started eating meat, we would not have evolved such a good working brain. we would not be that inteligent as we are today.
the claim was based on the premise that nothing delivered that much energy and proteins in...
Quite a lot, it would seem, although some believe that for the entire planet to turn vegetarian would mean the poorest wouldn't get an adequate diet.
Here are some quotes from articles. (I can't vouch for the accuracy of the information, though much of it comes from reputable sources.)
This...
I was watching the news today. It seems that the US government has decided that after years of research the meat (as well as eggs, milk ect) from cloned animals is every bit as safe as that from non-cloned animals.
The science behind the report (from what I was able to read) seems pretty...
I came across this interesting little bit of info while discussing humans' evolution dependence on meat with a vegan in another forum.
It seems a little clear-cut to me and the fact that the ad for the book linked there says the book was, "Summarily ignored by the mainstream media," makes me a...
Right on! Let them eat beef. Nothing was more disturbing than to see special butcher shops (boucheries chevalines) in Paris devoted solely to providing horse meat for the dinner table.

I sometimes hear people say they buy hormone-free meat. I don't know for sure but on the surface this seems like a contradiction in terms. Doesn't all meat have hormones and when they say "hormone-free meat" don't they mean they're not adding extra hormones? Or am I mistaken?
More generally...
I have been on the Atkins diet for several weeks now, eating almost zero carbohydrates. All protein and fat. In the last 3 weeks, I might have farted 4 times, TOTAL.
Since I used to fart 4 times a day on average on my regular diet, I'm guessing that the vast majority of farts must come...
