    Ricky Jay passed away

Asked by The Times about duplicity for a 2013 article, Mr. Jay argued: “You wouldn’t want to live in a world where you couldn’t be conned. Because it would mean you’re living in a world where you never trusted anyone or anything.”

David Copperfield forced to reveal trick's secret in court.

I'm not linking to the story as there is a risk of spoilers. I myself turned off the audio on the TV when it appeared that it was a long segment and they were going to give it away to the viewers. I saw reporters smirking at the end. Apparently he was sued because an audience member was...

The thought of claiming specific magicians are fake.

Quite often I read or hear people express their feelings about magicians such as David Blaine and Criss Angel being fake. After encountering those statements I've developed an idea that maybe the people are hating those people for their popularity. I don't think I've ever actually heard Criss...

    Magician = Skeptic?

I've just been reviewing and making posts on another forum, The Magic Cafe, and I was stunned by the amount of support for Jim Callahan and opposition to Criss Angel over the fight on Phenomenon on Halloween, 2007. I have always thought of magicians as a skeptical buch (Houdini, Carson, Randi...

What are the most technically ingenious and impressive illusions you’ve ever seen?

This question is largely directed towards other magicians, but non-magicians are strongly encouraged to relate their own experiences. Eventhough “technically ingenious” is mentioned in the topic, I am assuming that the disclosure of trade secrets can be avoided if we abstain from going into...

    Perhaps a stupid question?

Okay, I'm not a magician. I don't have any great interest but I do remember reading a book back in the late 1970s that explained a lot of tricks and how to do them. I thought it was fascinating. Where can I find such a book today? Or preferably, a website?

How many "psychics" are magicians / mentalists?

(Forgive me if this has come up before; I can't think of a suitable search string to be sure I've not missed it.) I've often wondered about the proportions of self-deluders, informally-trained scammers, and outright mentalists that are in the business of taking money for "psychic" services. I...

You can't have a forum about magic without asking about everyone's favorite magicians :D More and more I find myself drawn to the work of Cyril. He'll take something that's already really cool on it's own and put a spin on it, like a card through window routine into a card through aquarium...

    Magicians' protocol

Following some discussion and disagrement on this topic, I thought it worthy of its own thread, given that some are dubious of the ethics/protocol of some magicians. See the 'Derren Brown' thread for an insight into this. Here's the question: "To what extent, if any, should a...

    Magicians - And Skepticism

Is there any kind of referance that shows Magicians are by and large skeptics? I must admit, that I myself had somewhat relegious upbringing. Not very heavy, but I certainly believed - at age of 12 or so - alot that was in the bible. During teen years, I shifted more to 'new age' stuff, but...

Can we see this guy in Vegas?

I remember seeing a magician on tv who was some bumbling old guy who had a kind of slutty tart for an assistant. I only caught a few moments, but it was so funny. I was wondering if he was based in Vegas and maybe at the TAM I could get over to see him. No clue who he is!
