One question about flouride that bugs me is WHY its in the water at all? Whats the reason? Im sure Im missing something but surely its not some idea that they are somehow trying to help us care for our teeth? Please tell me theres some sensible reason!

I think we all know the screed, but I haven't seen a thread on the subject of fluoride. Do the claims about its IQ-lowering properties hold any water, or is the study linked to on Wikipedia the only thing they can dredge up?

Hello. Long time lurker, first time poster, and not sure if a fluoride topic has been created or discussed yet. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to separate fact from fiction on either side of the fluoride fence. I find myself starved for real insight on this topic, for what I hope...

In trying to wade through the anti-fluoridation nuts and credible evidence is difficult--is there any data to show that fluoride intake (e.g., in city water) leads to hypothyroidism or conditions of the thyroid?
