In deference to RSLancastr, whose recent thread I helped to thoroughly derail by responding to Ivor the Engineer's comment on the apparently contradictory concept of "military honour":
I responded that I felt that the concept was essential to sustain armed forces, and that we will need armed...
Well, last year, I bought my first computer in twenty years. I had all these wonderful ideas of how I was going to help spread skepticism and rational thought. I guess I was being a little optimistic :o
Anyway, I finally pried myself away from the online porn sites and did something...

I am begining my planning and booking (I am making a whole west coast thing out of the whole deal) and am curious. Could someone please walk me thru some of the steps to get orgainized for TAM5 and...

Sad Day....Sad circumstances. I had a similar thing happen in my old unit, it is (unfortunately) all to common.
I've been reading Randi's site for a year now. I've also become an aethiest overtime and a extreme skeptic. So...good I found a board that matches my thoughts. Anyway for my first post I'd like share a message I just posted on the Penn And Teller Bullsh!t board. It's a funny read.
Alright I...
The UK's Observer newspaper now has an 'Observer Woman' magazine with an Alternative Health column by one Susan Clark. As the magazine puts it:
She also has a website at www.whatreallyworks.co.uk and that's got to win some prize for site name of the year. As usual the paper absolves itself of...

CNN Article:http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/americas/12/19/bolivia.election/index.html
OK, a man of the people, but some of his friends...
Still, given the country's history, I wouldn't take long bets on his being in power very long...
I got rid of my old computer and have moved into my first notebook, a Toshiba Satellite M45, with wireless capability. The impetus for this was a three-month deployment at work (we're both being sent to Orlando for the winter). We'll probably be put up in anything from a nice hotel to...
BERLIN Oct 10, 2005 — Conservative Angela Merkel struck a power-sharing deal Monday that will make her the first woman and politician from the ex-communist east to serve as Germany's chancellor, forging a coalition with ousted leader Gerhard Schroeder's party to reform the faltering economy...
Apparently, a British designed satellite intended to study the melting of the polar caps has crashed. They used a Soviet ICBM to fit a shoestring budget. I doubt if it was insured.
Sputnik II? Are we in the USA launching any satellites to do similar studies? I think the politics surrounding the...
From this thread
I take issue with this. I think that the interest is in reducing the soverignty of the individual at the expense of government. "Innocents" are a fator that is blithly ignored when studies show that the drawing of a gun absent any violence often leads to a perp skulking away...
I got a book advert emailed to me. Promo ideas discussed
The first time I heard the first quote I thought, "hogwash". That was decades ago - does it pass for common wisdom today?
I can argue with part of the second quote. Putting ourselves first does not automatically make us contemptible...
Kevin Trudeau has an FTC agreement barring him from
FTC press release here.
Yet he has a new book out that would seemingly be a direct violation of this agreement.
Would this book be protected under first amendment issues?
Granted, I have not had the pleasure of reading this drivel, but I...
Or "Bizzare Sex Habits of the Extreme Right Wing."

Your arguement linking gay marriage to bestiality is gone, but please, continue.
...I quit.

A childhood friend of mine found out she was pregnant. She was having an affair with a first cousin, and it's his. Now, her parents also are first cousins!
So my question is... what is the likelihood of the child having genetic defects? I'm just curious. There is no point in scaring her, plus...
If people would like to comment on the ideas expressed, how easy they find to understand, the grammar etc, I would much appreciate it.

A man has been sentenced to nine years in jail by a Virginia judge for sending millions of junk emails, or "spamming".
Jeremy Jaynes, 30, is the first person in the US to get a prison term in a spam case. He is said to have been the world's eighth most prolific spammer.
By selling sham...
Catchy title to a thread, eh? This phrase was uttered by a friend of mine, years ago...and it stuck.
The subject has to do with nuclear weapons. :D
Why is it that we hold the world's largest arsenal of nukes...and we are the only country in history to have used them...yet it is us who goes...

Share your "yay, it's time to go back to work after TAM!" stories here.
I had checked my work schedule when I was at my restaraunt with the Luciana-led Stratosphere group. I was scheduled to work Tuesday from 11am to 5pm. I usually don't work days, but, whatever.
Yesterday I dragged my sorry...

Huygens has landed on Titan and is transmitting like mad. The first shot's been released... It's grainy, it's small, it's black and white... but it appears to show a shoreline and a delta-like array of channels.
Finally, a lander photo that doesn't look like a Dr. Who quarry set. Stick that in...

AccountingWEB.com - Jan-6-2005 - For the first time ever, the U.S. does not rank among the world's 10 freest economies in the Index of Economic Freedom, published annually by The Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal.
The U.S.'...
I just finished reading A State of Denmark by Derek Raymond.
It's told in the first person, and at the end the hero Richard Watt (who narrates the story) dies. That always seems like a cop out to me, as it shouldn't (can't?) happen.
It's happened to me before when reading a novel and always...
