Beautiful display of noctilucent clouds above my hometown last night.
These typically only appear at latitudes above 50 degrees, but they have been getting lower and lower (I'm at 42 degrees N).
No record of these clouds before 1885, so they are a recent phenomenon.

is a rather lovely UFO-shaped "lenticular" cloud that could easily have been mistaken for a "saucer" at some distance.
interesting article. i had heard about diseases travelling via dust storms, but the rest was new to me. anyone have an opinion about the viablity of the hypotheses that are mentioned?
